Fuck You Starbucks
Back when I worked in L.A., I drank mochas from the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I would also buy their beans and make the occasional giant cup of coffee for the twenty-minute commute to work. There was a Starbucks downstairs at work, but I never drank the coffee there. I'd walk the block to the CB&TL. Their mochas were sweeter and the coffee didn't taste burnt. If I liked the taste of Starbucks, I wouldn't have any problem with their methods. As it is, I'm moderately troubled by them.
Now I can't have caffeine, so it doesn't really matter. I occasionally have a cup of decaf from a local chain near the office. This depends solely on whether they have half-and-half and Splenda, as I don't like black coffee.
My money is on str8 to be a CB&TL guy, as that is the preferred choice of celebs in LA. They do write screenplays at several Starbucks in LA, but I don't want to get into a coffee/culture/LA discussion.

I must agree with Paigow on this. Dunkin' Donuts used to have great coffee. Now it sucks. I think it's the coffee that's changed, and not me.

btw, was it you who mentioned Rodney Crowell in a post a few weeks back? I didn't respond at the time b/c I was behind but I hope you weren't being sarcastic. I love Rodney Crowell but I've never heard anybody else talk about him (off the radio) ever.

Cubs Fans Are One Ball Short...
As if the world needed further proof that Chicago Cubs fans are collectively the biggest overwrought, annoying, dopiest, most idiotic fucking support group on the planet --
The destruction of a stupid fucking baseball was the lead story on ALL of the local newscasts last night and headlines the local papers...
One paper even did a "special section". Pathetic.

Wanna borrow my Rodney Crowell cd so the two of you have something to talk about? Next time you are in my car we can put the top down and scream "Crazy For Leaving" at the tops of our lungs! It will be soooo Thelma and Louise -- were they spinsters too?

Bartman was the guy who caught that ball in the stands, right?
And they ceremonially destroyed his ball last night?
Jesus, you people do take your sports seriously. Poor guy.

I don't mind Starbucks' coffee -- though I go somewhere else habitually -- but their pastries taste like UN food-convoy lentils.
The new title of this board makes me think I'm signing up to join Sendero Luminoso every time I come in. Weird that.

I like Starbucks -- I drink it every day and buy it for my home use too. There. I said it.
As for tea -- there's this place near me called "Harney & Sons" and Harney is a "master tea blender" or some such thing. Anyway, it's fancy schmantzy tea, and is made near me (alas, not in TCOTU), and is DEEEEshishish (as my 5-y-o used to say when he was a 2-y-o).
I'm sure you can get it online, and it's sold in some shops in TCOTU, and likely other places too. The "sachets" are ok, but of course the loose tea always tastes better.

He didn't actually catch the ball. That's what made it so funny. I mean, so tragic.

Fuck Me Starbucks
We have an independent movie theatre here that has opened a little coffee shop. I have discovered the joys of the soy latte. I find it adds just a touch of sweetness to the coffee without having to add sugar.
Anyway, I think we have more independent coffee houses then we do starbucks. The only time I just run across them is when I am traveling to Philly and stop for a drink at a rest area. I normally just get a chai. I think maybe we have one in a mall somewhere.
Of course, when I first moved here we didn't have a Target, bed bath and beyond, linens and things or any of that stuff. Now we do, so the Starbucks invasion can't be all that far behind.
