Well, and sometimes I just get attacked by these:

I've never had a work-related nightmare since I've been a lawyer. I used to have waitressing nightmares a lot though. Guess it's a more stressful job.

I don't think we learned that. I think we learned that American basketball is a different sport than college or International/European basketball.
I would rather the NBA allowed all forms of zone. But they have concluded that they want a certain type of excitement -- the type that comes with one-on-one, athletic play. I can see why to a certain extent, but I really just think they made a determination that one type of exciting game is better than another. Watching dunks are cool, but crisp passing and accurate long range shooting are exciting too. A last second, game-winning shot is always exciting.
If the NBA allowed all kinds of zones, kids wouldn't jump from college as quickly because teams would have no use for them unless they had learned how to beat a zone and built a solid foundation in each of the skills that make basketball a great game.
That said, if we had two of our best jump shooters on this Olympic team, I think we would have won the Gold.

Olympic Stuff and Oliver Stone SPOILER WARNING
[SSSI]Marion Jones fouls a few times and takes off short a few times and doesn't medal in the Long Jump. A bit later she fucks up the baton handoff and the US drops out of hte 4x100 relay. Coincidence or did she fuck up on purpose? Screwing up elimanates the chance that medals will be taken away due to doping (if confirmed).
I was disappointed that she was choosen to run the relay. She didn't qualify at the trials, why does she get a slot with the doping investigation hanging over her head? [/SSSI]
eta: After further pondering, I will bow out of future basketball posts. I am not 6'11" and a 5'2" white girl saying "me too" doesn't add anything to the conversation.

I guess my point is that I (and I think many other American fans) prefer to watch the style of play the NBA perfected in the '80s. But maybe we're a dying breed and the current target-market generation prefers the current style.
I agree we would have won with our best players.

That's what Coltrane said, not me. What I said is that bringing 12 superstar scorers isn't the way to go. I agree with Thurgreed, let me pick 4 different guys, 2 3 point shooters, 2 defenders and the Gold would be staying with the US. The games I watched the teams just collapsed on our big guys giving us the open 3 shot. we seemed to take that as the way to play defense, but the other teams had shooters.
Edit: Anne, don't you back out. If you need confidence go back and read old basketball posts by the "experts" here. We don't know what we're talking about- or at least some of them don't.

No question. I think we would have won with who we have now if you add Alan Houston and Cuttino Mobley.

Indeed! I've never had a school nightmare - had one work nightmare the other week, but that is the only one ever. But waitressing nightmares? Every night for about the first month of work. Always every single table in the place would sit down at the same time and I couldn't get out of the waitress station to get to any of them. Horrible.
Also I had tree-planting dreams (not really nightmares, because they were not that scary), when I did that. I planted millions of trees every night, over and over again. I still do, sometimes. I injured the nerve in my middle finger of my right hand while tree-planting (common injury), and sometimes I still wake up after a tree-planting nightmare with no feeling in my middle finger and it's sticking straight up and I can't get it down for a few minutes. It's because I've been clenching the shovel in my sleep, not saying fuck you to the man.

What about "Soylent Green"? Dude, virtually all movies made in the 1970s had the future as dirty, noisy, and chaotic. And the present ("Taxi Driver") and the past (any Sam Peckinpaw western), too. Personally, I blame this on Nixon.
Apropos of this, I believe that President Heston should be selected the best sci-fi actor by acclamation. In addition to the aforementioned "Soylent Green," he starred in "The Omega Man" (the favorite movie of a young Not Bobby) and "Planet of the Apes."
And I can't think of a better sci-fi movie than "Blade Runner," so I guess I'll go with them scientist dudes.

That's like asking if you would rather watch Magic Johnson or Kwame Brown...

I have that dream a lot. I never have the room issue, but sometimes, if I'm under a lot of stress, I learn on the day of the final that I also have a paper due the next day for another class that I thought I had dropped.

I frequently have the dream where I am looking for the exam room to an undergrad class I thought I dropped but I am naked when looking for the exam room.

But the issue wasn't current, it was past use. If she's convicted of past use, around Sydney, then she would be banned retroactively. She's being tested plenty now, and if she's still taking, she's obviously calculated that the risk of taking and getting caught by a test at the olympics is worth it.
As for hoops, we could have won either of two ways: 1: Get a better set of NBA style players to go. If Shaq, Kobe, and others go we probably do win. This was mostly second string. 2: Take NBA players who would fit the international mold, even if they're not the top NBA players, and send them. THat's what every other country does. We could win that way too.
I think this is what it must be like living in Brazil, Italy, or Germany when your team goes to the World Cup and sucks it big time.
