Go west young Yankees
Now that Torre has signed will the Dodgers become the west coast version of the Yankees?

Assuming it holds up on appeal, does anyone know if this presumably tiny church in Kansas has insurance to pay that puppy? Can they personally go after whatever people are in whatever scary ownership mechanism they have in place for the balance?

It was the jailing for flag desecration that I objected to. This jury verdict I applaud and have absolutely no problem with. I hope more people sue the shit out of the church and the members that show up to the funerals individually.

Same in Texas. A girl a few years back tried to go with negligent infliction of emotional distress to go after the insurance policy since the individual frat members that videotaped and distributed her having sex with one of the members were pretty judgement proof. Supreme Court didn't think the emotional distress was as much negligent as intentional.

Someone's faith in biblical inerrancy is about to get pwned.

I don't know if anyone else here has experience suing frats, but FWIW in terms of the lengths they will go to avoid responsibility, and the utter shamelessness with which they will throw their "brothers" to the fucking wolves, they are surpassed only by the Cosa Nostra (which, ahem, I have not sued) and the Roman Catholic Church (which I have).

Ridiculously high payroll and unable to win a playoff series?
Dodgers already had that.
PS - Pity poor, poor Scott Proctor, who thought he escaped Torre's middle-reliever wrath with his arm [almost] intact.

Oh yeah. Now I remember. Well, let's assume judgment is upheld on appeal but the award is reduced to some fathomable number, like......5 million. I've never been clear on what you can go after to satisfy a judgment, except the stuff you hear about your house being immune from debt collection in Florida (or maybe that's bankruptcy....whatever) and a few stories here and there about OJ as a judgment debtor.
Translation: I'm not a real attorney, don't know how legal stuff works in real life and even had to hire a lawyer to close on my apt.

The fuckers accused me of embezzling $10,000.00.
They were going to close our house any day, so I set up an account to keep paying for social functions. People have to drink. Bastards sent out a newsletter smearing me to all past alumni.
My parents were so proud to get that. I should have sued the dickheads for defamation.

I like how the Roman Catholic Church in Philadelphia escaped all liability on child molestation cases on a statute of limitations defense, despite the "discovery" rule.
I wonder what politician jimmied that bullshit through the court system.

You place liens on all real property owned by the defendants and move to sell it. But chances are that Phelps has structured the ownshership of most of the Defendants' assets as jointly held or tenancy by entireties (husband and wife) so that going through the execution process will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
My guess is the guy will get nothing but some lousy equipment and personal property belonging to the Defendants.

Why you expect responsibility from Frats is beside me - I understand we expect both the Catholic Church and Cosa Nostra to have more than minimum standards of decency, but aren't frats all about semi-organized irresponsibility?
By the way, where does the Klan fall on your scale - worse than frats, better than frats, or pretty much the same thing?
