50 guys in plaid pants, desperately trying to look a decade younger than they are, boozily hitting on indifferent 22 year olds?

I meant his car career. I'm sure a NASCAR guy can still get the girls, especially if he promises the drug straightened out the problem, as it were.

Indeed.
Though some were wearing hipster shirts instead of plaid pants. Were you there?

How old do you think I am? Um, I mean, no. No, I was at home working and comtemplating my New Year's Eve outfit. Ah, the burdens of vanity. Part of me can't wait until this whole metrosexual thing is over so I can stop worrying about what I wear. The metrosexual thing *is* still going strong, yes? Anyhoo, I think I have the outfit worked out, so no worries there. Nothing says "Happy New Year" like lavender velvet pants.

I forgot to tell you all that over Christmas I found out another ex-boyfriend of mine has come out. Since none of you are keeping score, I'll let you know that brings the total to 4. I think I am pretty dense. or asian or something.

Hmmmm. What did you sell to afford the extension? Did you have a bunch of extra blood vessels lying around somewhere?

Yeah. But I thought she was a man until just now. Pass the levitra. I'm well past the asian chick phase.

There's more to etiquette than forks
Okay, who's the wiseacre who sent this letter to Judith Martin?
Quote:
Dear Miss Manners:
What is the right thing to say when someone insults your intelligence by telling you something that is obviously not true?
For example, my girlfriend left a letter under the door of my room saying she is going to her parents' house because her mother "wants to talk to her about something." My handyman told me that that when she left she was wearing a sexy top, and she never does that when she goes to meet her parents. Her parents live a couple hours away, in another city. She does not own a car, so it's improbable that she would have made it to work the following morning, yet when I stopped by her office, her boss said she went out to lunch.
Also, she just started her job, and I am still supporting her until her first paycheck at the end of the month. I know she did not have money for the trip. So when she gives me some excuse, I feel bad, because it seems she is underestimating my intelligence.
Is there a snappy answer that would demonstrate to her that I am no fool? We have an open relationship, it's not that I am jealous, but I don't want to be lied to so blatantly. I cannot dump her at the moment because she is pregnant, and my family would like me to take part in raising the child.
Miss Manners will not insult your intelligence by claiming that this problem is solvable. An expectant mother who violates the terms of an arrangement already open to heaven-knows-what is not going to be reformed by a quip. Nor will we argue about whether your bad feeling stems from the presumed deed or the use of subterfuge to accomplish it; fortunately, that is out of Miss Manners's purview. The etiquette question is whether you can insult the perpetrator so as to shame her but not alienate her.
Probably not. Nobody is willing to suffer being called a liar -- least of all liars. The indignation they are able to bring to such accusations is stunning.
You could unnerve her by throwing out small indications that you have discovered contradictions in her story without stating any conclusions -- "Funny, your mother called here" or "I would have been glad to drive you" -- stated without rancor or probing.
Who knows, this may even lead to indications that you were mistaken about her deception. Or at least it will encourage her to lie to you less blatantly, which is all you claim to want.

This just in
I may not have the right flair for the dramatic, but if I were to commit suicide, I'd choose another method than stabbing myself in the heart with a knife. Twice. I lean towards murder.

Not that Miss Manners would be of this sort to point out that aforthcoming child of a such a stable family life might be fathered by the certain someone else that she was going to see and not the guy who pays her bills (and thus might be more likely to pay her baby's bills), but might Miss Manner's have pointed out that the girlfriend may have lied on previous occasions, i.e. when identifying the father of the baby?

Surely she would not insult the intelligence of this poor nimrod by suggesting he wouldn't have thought of this already. Though with an open relationship on his end as wel,l he might be figuring that this kid can't be any more cost or trouble than any of his other partners'...
