But, do keep in mind one positive effect of the difficulty of scoring -- it makes upsets a far greater possibility. Underdog team gets lucky or makes things click and scores a goal, and they can win. The Euro finals this year include two teams that have never before been in the finals (I believe). When's the last time that happened in the World Series, the NBA finals, or the Superbowl?

Doesn't this cut against your argument? If it is easier to achieve upsets, you would think that they would have made it to the finals more often since higher likelihood of upsets = greater parity.

Either way, why does this make it a better sport? I could just as easily argue that sports that don't have a many upsets are better because when a heavy underdog wins, it's much more exciting since it so rarely happens.

But, to each his own.
