Words have gender, people have sex. But not the people on this board, I'll wager.

Club does not disagree with that term. Club thinks that, because the term sex has multiple meanings, in certain instances the term gender is more appropriate so as to avoid confusion.

It is going to sound like I am showing off here, but the bottom line is W has an ability to make you like him. When Bush was running for President, the campaign wanted me to be in charge of the Silicon Valley. Being a Pro-Choice Republican, I was reluctant. But after talking to the then Governor and his friends (his roomate from Harvard was my Co-Chair) they convinced me to come on board. I got so sucked in I ended running the internet campaign. People around Bush trust him and like him and it shows. It seems all through his life everyone he has come into contact with him really likes him. Hell, W got Nancy Pelosi's daughter to fawn all over him. I have seen some politicians who followers respect, others that are revered, but Bush has a way of making people really like him and trust his intentions. Every time I write a piece that is critical of the administration all sorts of people call me and lay a guilt trip. I am sure the guy with the tapes got a ton of phone calls from mutual friends that guilted him out of it.

Gender does not, however, have multiple meanings, so by using it inappropriately you create confusion. Most people, having a sense of context, are not unduly confused when words have different meanings in different contexts.
Methinks your real objection is to the slight frission of naughtiness attendent upon the use of the term "sex" in otherwise non-salacious contexts. In which case, my only response is: "killjoy!"

eta: I just wanted to point out the feminine declention of the noun and collect my bonus points. Thanks.

I would tell my personal stories about how freaking likeable Clinton is, but it would sound like I was showing off, so I won't.
No, I never fucked him, or even came close.
ETA OK, fine, I don't know from personal experience, but I hear that people who meet him generally really like him, just like people who meet Bush generally really like him. They really really want to be liked -- it's part of their appeal, and maybe necessary in today's world to have that kind of job.
I would be willing to bet that on longer acquaintance, the appeal for both of them beings to fade. But they wouldn't be such successful politicians, especially given their states of origin, if they weren't immediately likeable and charming.

Maybe - I don't know what that really means. It would be nice if it was freer. Of course it is not totally free but no trade relationship is - it is all relative.

From your mouth to God's ears. The French are the worst on this. They claim to be so concerned about subsuharan aftrica and yet their unyielding support of the EU CAP is the single biggest cause of poverty in that region.

Originally posted by Sidd Finch But many, though certainly not all, commentators seem to believe that China has artificially suppressed its currency, and this makes the "free" trade a very murky proposition.
Related question -- if you believe that China does artificially suppress its currency, then does the fact that this keeps prices of goods imported from China low make it an acceptable practice -- or even a practice that benefits the US?
|
The resources that China expends to keep their currency down is basically a subsidy to the US consumer. I think their country would benefit greatly by letting the currency go (in the long run these types of distortions just hurt everyone), but in the short run the American consumer is getting a kickback from the PRC.

The only thing I can find that I posted in the time period that he might have been confused by is "Anyway, basically I find all of this very interesting. I definitely, definitely agree that there are, on a general level, sex-linked differences in how people process information."
Like, maybe I was saying people process information differently when fucking than at other times. This is no doubt true (though I question whether he would know that unless we are deeming masturbation to be sex), but given the context of the conversation in general and the rest of the post in particular, I doubt anyone was confused. I would have just come out and said "of course, when fucking, everyone's thought processes are different!" if that is what I had intended.
I shoulda. Coulda shoulda woulda.

2. Frighteningly charismatic.
Besides, W hasn't struck me as the most likeable guy recently. I was of the "I'd rather have a drink with John Kerry" persuasion, myself, though he didn't seem particularly likeable, either.
