The flag-draped coffin of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist was brought to the Supreme Court's Great Hall this morning as court justices, his nominated successor and friends and family looked on in a highly symbolic and emotional ceremony marking the death of the nation's 16th chief justice.

Rehnquist's wooden casket, draped with the American flag, was carried up the Supreme Court's long marble stairs by a former assistant and seven former law clerks, including John Roberts,

After a brief, emotional prayer service attended by the Rehnquist family and six Supreme Court justices, official Washington began paying its last respects.

President Bush and first lady Laura Bush came to the court building shortly before 4 p.m. to pay their respects.

Justices Anthony M. Kennedy (who is out of the country) and David Souter were absent from the ceremony.

Wow. Souter really is a loser. I thought New Englanders had more class. Maybe he is guarding his house from emminent domain.

This place is simple:

Penske - Insane ramblings. Unsure whether he even believes what he writes, but like a 15 year who's just discovered masturbation, he can't keep his fingers away from the keys for more than a minute.

Ty - Never met a 15 page supporting affidavit of some cobbled together factoids from a left leaning website he didn't like - didn't like to post verbatim and batter Penske with, that is. Imagine your college poligeo professor... Sometimes mainly correct.

Spanky - Fancies himself the most rational of the crowd. Prone to an occasional good point, but even when he's right, people won't admit it, because the pomposity of his prose and hamfisted delivery (Moses claimed less authority walking down from the mountain) make agreement impossible. Successful stalker, world class speaker and political dinner gadfly. Renaissance man to some, Cliff Claven of the boards to others.

Hank - Drunk at the corner of the bar. Barney of the board. Occasionally coherent and when he is, usually 15x more profound than any of the others.

Slave - Board dick - just likes infuriating liberals with odes to Reagan and quips about Hillary's prostate cancer screenings.

Me - Reads little, flips off what he perceives to be incendiary or witty comments. Largely ignored, for good reason. Never bothers to ketchup, so pompous, pedantic rants rarely, if ever relevant.

Gatti - The PB's greatest monster. The ramblings in favor of isolationist govt policies are one thing, but the Aryan Brotherhood stuff is just disturbing. Truly upsetting poster.

There secret charm behind the PB is its stupider and more inane than the FB, which occasionally reaches concensus and might actually impart some nugget of wisdom to the reader. This place is where those who think they know how to think deeply can hang out with those who want to think less than the FB requires one to do (just north of the brain function needed to sustain basal metabolism).

I invented it. I think I deserve some credit on that score.

And just for clarification, for Gatti's benefit, that is a real American Patriot button that the Bush administration sends out to all of the real American Patriots. I wear mine everyday. I took that picture with my Treo's camera phone a few minutes ago. PLease disregard the sacredcowburgers.com logo. I don't know how that got in the picture. But it's real. Serious. Fo shizzle.

I don't know if you're a history buff, but did you know that, despite common belief to the contrary, Austria's nuclear program did not, in fact, stop in 1978 and has continued to develop secretly over the last 25 years? You'll never take Zwentendorff.

you know i love you, but I am really in battle mode now. Just sit back and see if Ty does what he should to get the dull normal unfortunates from his side evacuated out of here. They won't be stranded-they'll be swept away.

I'm saying that you post so much crap that I no longer bother to look at graphics you post. It's like a heuristic that takes the place of the ignore function. Since other people occasionally post worthwhile graphics, I don't want to block the graphics.

Exclamation Where in the world are the NO's buses

I just saw former NYC Mayor Ed Koch on MSNBC with Rita Cosby and he asked Rita, "Where were the buses? What happened to all the hundreds of school buses? Public transit? Why weren't the poor evacuated with these?"

This worm is starting to turn and Ty and Gatti and the rest of the head in the sand crowd will have much to regret for their postings here.

Here's a google map picture of a hundred plus of the municipal bus fleet. Switch between satellite and Katrina to see the drowning of the same, while people died for lack of transportation.

Here's Nagin photto-op with buses. This is the 27th most shown picture from the disaster.

Landrieu is a U.S. Senator, so Bush presumably spoke for her. She should also get points in your book for trying to cover for him for a while before she lost it with FEMA's incompetence. Or were you talking about her brother, the lieutenant governor?

And I wouldn't be so quick to say what Blanco and Nagin have or haven't said unless you're listening to local radio in the area.

Am I wrong?
Yes. There were something like 100,000 people in the city. If half the number of people had been stuck without food and water outside the Superdome, with Chertoff and Brown going on TV to say that everything was ducky and under control, the country still would have been appalled.
