The top contenders for the final burn are:
Don't Fence Me In - David Byrne covering Cole Porter
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - William Shatner covering the Beatles
For A Dancer - Jackson 5 covering Jackson Browne
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole covering Judy Garland
Personal Jesus - Johnny Cash covering Depeche Mode
One - Aimee Mann
Burning Down the House - Tom Jones covering Talking Heads
Naive Melody - Shawn Colvin covering Talking Heads
Blackbird - Brave Combo & Tiny Tim covering the Beatles
Que Sera Sera - Pink Martini covering Doris Day
Top of the World - Shonen Knife covering the Carpenters
A coworker recommended the following -
Ring of Fire - Social Distortion covering Johnny Cash
Across the Universe - Fiona Apple covering the Beatles
and the Me First and the Gimme Gimme's body of work.
Any others?

So does Guns and Roses. It's better than November Rain (some times you need some time . . . )

I saw Los Lobos cover "Dear Mr. Fantasy" once live. It was awesome. I've been looking for a bootleg of that for years since then. No luck yet.
Do you think they'd show up if I invited them to a family tamalada?

Oh, and how about Uncle Tupelo covering the Soft Boys ("I Wanna Destroy You")?
Or the Jayhawks cover Grand Funk Railroad ("Bad Time")?

Will you invite me, too?
A prior engagement is causing me to miss Los Lobos here this week. Which sucks.

If you like, I can send you my 8th grade school picture and you can photoshop the hair onto your Hank face. I would also like to see Hank in a Friendly's uniform (rrrowr!), but I may be alone in this.

If nobody else does, Hank would now like to see himself in a Friendly's uniform.

Interesting that you should bring this up, because I've lately realized something about November Rain. It always enters my head when I'm under some kind of stress and I've realized that it's actually very soothing. I have no idea why. It's like it's some kind of fucked-up let's-get-through-this-together mantra or something. I certainly did not choose it -- it chose me, but it appears I am stuck with it, and for the better.

The "I Am Sam" soundtrack has a bunch of good covers of Beatles songs. I like Rufus Wainwright's version of "Across the Universe" and "Blackbird" by Sarah McLachlan (duh).
Ani DiFranco does a cool version of "Wishin' and Hopin'."
Frank Sinatra does an amazing version of "It's Not That Easy Being Green."

Of course! February 17 at my aunt's house. Half of my cousins look like David Hildago or Cesar Rojas, so it'll be hard to figure out which people are from the RT family and which are from Los Lobos.
I can't remember who I saw while they were playing at ACL this year, but I'm sure that they weren't nearly as good. I've seen them so many times live, though, that I felt like I should experience something new.
