ETS' Backdoor Affirmative Action

The trick of it, my good man, is this. There is one fewer class of applicants the blacks and hispanics have to compete against. Previously, there actually were geeks that shined with scores well over the 75th percentile. Now, they are just part of the league of identical asian and white boys that can be passed aside for legacies, athletes, donors, and, ahem, blacks and hispanics.

I made it into Purgatory with c2ed and tmdiva. Of course, life seemed a lot like Purgatory before I took the test....
The Dante's Inferno Test has sent you to Purgatory!
You have escaped damnation and made it to Purgatory, a place where the dew of repentance washes off the stain of sin and girds the spirit with humility. Through contrition, confession, and satisfaction by works of righteousness, you must make your way up the mountain. As the sins are cleansed from your soul, you will be illuminated by the Sun of Divine Grace, and you will join other souls, smiling and happy, upon the summit of this mountain. Before long you will know the joys of Paradise as you ascend to the ethereal realm of Heaven.
Here is how you matched up against all the levels:
Level | Score
Purgatory | Very High
Level 1 - Limbo | High
Level 2 | High
Level 3 | Moderate
Level 4 | Very Low
Level 5 | Low
Level 6 - The City of Dis | Very Low
Level 7 | Low
Level 8- the Malebolge | Low
Level 9 - Cocytus | Very Low

Yeah, what the fuck was that all about? One of any of these things could explain it.
- Either the jarhead contingent was out in force and/or Josh was still hanging in as the "patriotic vote".
- America went completely tone-deaf. (We have already established that as a group, they are stoopid).
- There are more country fans that I anticipated who watch the show.
- People felt sorry for him after every judge gave him a less than enthusiastic evaluation.
- It was a kneejerk reaction to the judges attempting to steer the competition towards a final three of Kim, Clay and Ruben, though that is what will happen in the end.
The ultimate result of this will be that the Ruben fans will vote in force from here on out, pushing him to the top. Maybe he was bottom 2 b/c everyone figures it's a foregone conclusion he will win. They won't take the voting process for granted from here on out.
If I were to speculate on the finals today, Ruben wins. Kim is runner-up. I'm guessing Clay fans might think he's a shoo in for the final two and a weird thing could happen where he doesn't garner votes as a result, as happened this week with big R.
Also, the judges will continue to want to see Kim do well (as will FOX) b/c they will want to see a guy and a girl in the finals, like last year. Look @ Justin from last year as an example. Clearly not the second-best performer/singer in the lot, but was runner-up anyway because the little girls thought he was cute.
As much as he sucks ass, I felt bad for Josh. He KNEW someone more deserving was going home and he should have gone instead. It reminded me of Carmen the week before she left, although she certainly had less a sense of shame than Josh had.
Now he has to suffer through at one more week, and we have to suffer through another week of a joyless performance from him. Props to Trenyce. She got completely jobbed and handled it with grace.

Shouldn't she always be? She should win lifetime achievement for "Most Beautiful." Hand her the prize for the next 5 years at least.

I was shocked to find Ruben in the final two, and I definitely agree that Josh should have gone home weeks ago.
That said, Trenyce SCHOOLED Ruben when they sang before they found out who was going home. Maybe because Trenyce knew she would be in the bottom two and Ruben assumed he wouldn't be (and therefore had no reason to get amped up to sing last night). Even though there is no way in hell Ruben should have been bottom two, Ruben needs to step it up.
Clay should win. He has an amazing voice and wins most improved image hands down.

It's about drama. If they fixed the voting so that it actually worked (i.e., people only vote for the worst performer each week), the contest is a foregone conclusion: we know who gets voted off each week without having to tune in. Arranging the vote so that you can only vote for who you like best ensures pockets of fans the chance to keep some talentless country twit (for example) in the game.
Everyone is shocked ( ![EEK!](http://www.lawtalkers.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif) ) at the results. No one can believe it.
America: "What will happen next week? I'm going to vote so that this doesn't happen again!"
Producers and text message providers: "Exactly."
