Edit: I even riffed through Harry Chapin's catalogue.
Thank you for not thinking that Gordon Lightfoot's "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" would qualify as a lowpoint.

I tear up, I really do, when I hear it. This is such a classic tale and it is truly heartwrenching to know that it is little known by those outside of the Great Lakes region -- the inspired song by Mr. Lightfoot notwithstanding.

(Spoken) Okay, eh?

(Sung) Cooo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coo, coooo!

(Spoken) Okay. Good day. Welcome to our single. I'm Bob McKenzie and
this is my brother Doug.
(Spoken) How's it going, eh?

(Spoken) Beauty, eh?
(Spoken) Yeah, I like that.

(Spoken) Okay. (Okay.)
(Spoken) Okay, everyone. This record was my idea.
(Spoken) Get out!
(Spoken) It was.
(Spoken) You're lying!
(Spoken) He... Hosehead here just sort of rid on my coattails.
(Spoken) Why are you doing this? It was our idea together, eh?
(Spoken) Yeah, okay.
(Spoken) (Yeah, okay.)
(Spoken) We agreed to... to say that, but...
(Spoken) Ah, take off!

CHORUS:

Take off! To the Great White North!
Take off! It's a beauty way to go.
Take off! To the Great White North!

(Spoken) Decent singing, eh?
(Spoken) Yeah.
(Spoken) Yeah, he's good.
(Spoken) Okay, so Good Day. Our topic today is music.
(spoken) That's right like, cause my brother and I are now experts in
the field.
(Spoken) Yeah, right, cause we're a band now. (Yeah, yeah, so...)
(Spoken) And ummm... Well, except for him, I'm a band.
(Spoken) Aww. How can you do that? Making me look bad. You're such a
hosehead.
(Spoken) Yea? Well, take off!

CHORUS

(Guitar solo)

(Spoken) Hey, hosehead.
(Spoken) Yeah, what?
(Spoken) Yeah, listen to this what's coming. You know what it is?
(Spoken) What?
(Spoken) It's a drum solo!
(Spoken) Okay, everyone, like this is me on the drums!
(Spoken) Oh, get out! It is not. You're not...
(Spoken) It is so!
(Spoken) Stop lying, will ya?
(Spoken) Take off, eh!
(Spoken) Aww...

CHORUS x2

Take off!

Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooooo!
Ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooo, ooooo!

(Repeat to end of song)

(Spoken) Beauty, eh?
(Spoken) Like magic, eh? It's coming in.
(Spoken) Well, that's like...
(Spoken) It's like it was sung by angels.
(Spoken) Hey, hosehead.
(Spoken) Yeah, what?
(Spoken) Guess what?
(Spoken) What?
(Spoken) It's over!
(Spoken) Take off! That can't be it!
(Spoken) Well... It is, yeah. Yeah, it is.
(Spoken) Why?
(Spoken) Because, well, hit records are short. Like, they...
(Spoken) No way.
(Spoken) ...yeah, they're not that long.
(Spoken) Okay. So, that's our topic for today. So, Good Day!
(Spoken) Good day!

(Shouted) Ay, you guys!
(Spoken) What?
(Shouted) Take off!

(Spoken) Wait! No!
(Spoken) Hey! Don't go!
(Spoken) No! Come back, eh?
(Spoken) Aww. Look what you did! Everybody's gone because of you! You said...
(Spoken) Come back! I won't let him do it again!
(Spoken) My fault, eh?
(Spoken) Yeah, your fault.
(Spoken) You are such a hoser.
(Spoken) There's no way I'll ever do another record with you Hoser.
(Spoken) Okay, that's fine! I'll do a solo album.
(Spoken) Fine then, you'll be looking for me...
(Spoken) Yeah? I will not.
(Spoken) ...on another label.
(Spoken) Aww. Now everybody's gone.
(Spoken) So?
(Spoken) Good day!
(Spoken) Good day!
Thank you thrasher. I love this song. Makes me want to put on a toque and eat bacon.

great underrated old and old [sic] movies

Bitch, please. Rebel without a Cause is unwatchable.
But as wrong as you are about this, your sig line is soooo right. The only knock on you is that I was going to use it for this week. But instead, I wrote down a quote I heard driving around listening to sports radio this Saturday. I had to pull over to a) stop from laughing and b) write it down in my "Life of Pi" book.

Oh, and Jack? I want you to want THIS!

I was following a thread on page 434 of the old "new fashion board." Is it still on the site?

Yup. You just need to choose to look at threads from the beginning. The site only shows threads that have activity in the last 30 days by default.

Here is the really outable thing about Bob and Doug McKenzie (though maybe all the canadians were doing this): In 7th grade, my best friend and I pretended to be them, and memorized their album. I was Bob and she was Doug. We printed up those 3/4 sleeve baseball shirts and mine said Bob on it and hers said Doug.

Anyway, she's a lawyer now too (so if she's reading this, hey!). We were total dorks but at least we liked funny shit. It was way better than our painter's cap phase.

So, poll, was anyone here NOT a total dork when they were in 7th grade? Now I'm curious.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Not since Eddy Cochran summed up the futility of the human condition with the ever resonating "I fought the law... and the law won" had any group really spoken to us like Steve Perry and Geddy Lee.

There shall be no ripping on Rush on my watch. Same goes for Triumph, Chilliwack, Loverboy, the Payolas, Carol Pope/Rough Trade, Gino Vanelli, The Pursuit of Happiness, or Gowan. But especially Rush. And for today's DYK, Did You Know that when not on tour or in the studio, Geddy Lee is a tennis fanatic?

My sister and her friend were Bob and Doug one year for Halloween. I was never Bob nor Doug. I was, however, Edith Prickley one year and my friend was Johnny Larue. (speaking of SCTV my husband and I still make Days of the Week references all the time, it's like a retarded secret code - that was such a good show).

I was in an awkward stage from about grade 7 until I turned 16. very dorky.

OMG!! Way outable! I know who you are.

Poll: Yes, I was NOT a total dork in 7th grade. I was in fact moderately cool.

There it is.

Well if you were not a dork, then you were not her. It is only really outable to me and to her. I don't really run around bragging on it nowadays (well, except for today in particular).

And, Shape Shifter, that Lisa G. comment could come off as catty. NTTAWWT.

Please note that as there appear to be no Australians around, it's open season on Olivia Newton-John, Men At Work, the Little River Band, the Eurogliders, Midnight Oil, the Bee Gees, INXS, Divinyls, Hoodoo Gurus, or Prawns With Horns ("Australia's Wiggiest Funked Up Band").*

Translated into English, that's "Australia's Wiggiest Funked-Up Band."

In a former adult life, I used to see kids of that age in groups of about 30 for approximately 45 minutes at a time. One of the great realizations of my young age (at the time) is that everyone in high school is a dork. The jocks? Dorks. Gangbangers? Dorks.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of nice kids if you can see through their projecting. But if you watch them for a few minutes, you can feel how uncomfortable almost all of them are. They all look at each other for approval, almost begging.

Anyway, I've always been nice to kids ever since. Once you see the bigger reality of that age, its like you can feel how they all want to run and hide because there is always something wrong with themselves.

Which is to say, I'd laugh if anyone said they weren't at that age or anwhere within, say, 6th grade through junior year.
