Black Style

Still with the baggy pants and the crooked baseball caps? Admittedly, black culture is cool and hip, but you don't see me wearing heavy flannel shirts circa 1993. It's been over 10 years. Enough already. Staying with the same fad for almost a decade and a half is the antithesis of cutting edge.

This post made me immediately think of this:

Jerry: "Darryl. He's black, isn't he?"
Elaine: "He is?"
George: "No, he isn't."
Jerry: "Isn't he, Elaine?"
Elaine: "You think?"
George: "I thought he looked Irish."
Jerry: "What's his last name?"
Elaine: "Nelson."
George: "That's not Irish."
Jerry: "I think he's black."
George: "Should we be talkin' about this?"
Elaine: "I think it's OK."
George: "No, it isn't."
Jerry: "Why not?"
George: "Well, it would be OK if Darryl was here."
Jerry: "If he's black."
Elaine: "Is he black?"
Jerry: "Does it matter?"
Elaine: "No, course not. I mean, I'd just like to know."
Jerry: "Oh, so you need to know?"
Elaine: "No, I don't need to know. I just think it would be nice if I knew."

The point of pranks on April Fools' Day is to make other people look foolish.

I wasn't aware that there was one "black style." Now I have to go shopping.

I think the term you're looking for is "urban style." But even using that term, I don't think there is one consistent style to be found.

Pants and jeans are baggy. I'm sure they will remain baggy. They are not ridiculously baggy like they used to be. But what are you looking for? A return to early to mid 80s crotch squeezers?

As for baseball caps, they're worn all different ways. In fact, wearing it crooked is now kind of back in style. Everyone was wearing their caps facing directly forward, brims pulled down low, perfectly straight, with a cap that was a little too big for your head, the past few years.

But I find it interesting that any of this generates a "come on, black people, let's keep it current" type post. Especially since (1) so many designers have been trying their best to steal any kind of urban style they can get their hands on and then calling it "new" and (2) I don't hear you talking about the stagnant style of the white guys out there wearing the perfectly bent (to look broken/worn in) baseball caps and those corny ass dockers.

Its pretty sad that censorship has gotten so far that Stern being pulled from all air was plausible.

e/o called me out but I'll respond anyway. Those white guys wearing their dockers and worn-in caps are dorks. I will admit to putting my hat throught the washing machine and wrapping runner bands around it in the mid '90s in order to get the perfect shape. Not now though. I can't remember the last time I wore a baseball cap.

And I thought we made fun of the dockers wearers all the time here?

Criticisms:

Urban Style -

Sideways hat looks stupid and juvenile
Showing boxers is an old white kid fraternity look that went out in like, 1988
Oversized jackets look bad
Your clothes should fit you
When AI wears a huge jersey, he looks stupid too, but he's incredibly rich, so he can do that. When you're incredibly rich, so can you, but not until then.

White guys -

Lose the fucking Dockers. Nothing says "I'm fucking dull" liked Dockers. If you aspire to look like a lower middle management, so you will be.
Lose the pleated pants. Last time these were in, the Cure had a hit single.
Lose the grey, barely plaid patterned suit. Either your suit has a pattern or it doesn't. Throw out that ugly barely-there patterned shit you got from Brooks Brothers. It looks indecisive.
Lose the baggy shirts. Buy a fitted shirt, and if you don't look good in fatted shirts because you have man boobs or a huge gut, go to the gym.
Stop buying your ties at Men's Wearhouse. Also, your tie should not look like a tablecloth in a cheap Italian restuarant. Have your wife/gf/sister/female friend pick your ties. You don't know what looks good.
Buy pants that are not khaki (light or dark khaki doesn't count; iff they have the word "khaki" in their name, they're khaki)
Throw out your penny loafers, Alex keaton.
Unless you're bald, get rid of the goatee. You look like an idiot.
And never, never dress like what you think people in the hood dress like. In your huge oversized Nornets jacket, barely-pubescent peach fuzz goatee, MC hammerish baggy jeans and chains - with slouched "swagger" - you do NOT look cool. You look (a) unemployable and (b) like a great target for a beatdown/mugging delivered by people who actually do live in the hood.

I will go on record as hating the crooked baseball cap look. Of course the only people here in Dallas that I've seen attempt it are 20-something white chicks. Even worse.

I wear mine to the gym when my hair gets long. If I don't, after working out for about twenty minutes, my hair goes all wavy and shit and gives me Michael Landon-head.

I guess I could cure this by getting a more regular haircut...

You're missing the point.

I was giving you an example of a style that can be attributed to white guys. You are supposed to look at that example, see that since it doesn't apply to all white guys or just white guys that it is not a "white style." You did that when you said you don't dress like that and only dorks do now. The next step is to recognize the analogy I'm drawing between the example you gave and the example I gave.

Actually, the last time I was there, the guy who picked the ties there was really good. Certainly better than any female figure in my life. Granted, this was eight years ago, so maybe he's got himself a better job by now.

my fake tan

The only downside is that it takes about 15 min to dry (and then it still isn't really dry, you have to go home and sleep and wake up and then its dry, but it didn't come off on the sheets). But anyway, during those 15 minutes, I had to stand naked in front of a fan blasting cold air at me and it was really fucking cold.
Why don't you just go to a real tanning booth? Seems to be a lot of work to get yourself painted, when you could just go get fake baked under some UV lights. Fuck, some chicks do this all year. Hell, I even knewa guy a few firms ago who did it. We made fun of him mercilessly, but he always had a tan.

And don't your co-workers think its strange when you suddenly appear tan in early spring and you haven't been away?

Or dead by his own hand, which is where I'd be if I ever found myself picking ties for you at the Men's Wearhouse.

Some nadirs just warrant "packing it in."

A Great Example of Real Boobs that Look Fake

I'll never refer to a pair of breasts as fake again without confirmation.

They're real right?
