How many of you had rules at your school where you could only miss 20% of your classes? That fucking sucked. Of course, I ignored that rule and missed many more than 20% of my classes. They never seemed to pester me about it. Does that make it an un-rule?

"Anti-class" is an interesting word. Does that mean I'm anti all classes? Am I an absolute misanthrope? Or was Paigs saying I'm anti-class[y], which would make me, well, a person of good breeding?
|
I just said what you sounded like, not what you are. And I was quoting Paigs on the "anti-class" thing, so I don't really know what that means. Bob Knight is an absolute misanthrope, and I'm constantly amused by him. Everyone finds it so offensive when he berates the media. I love it. Reporters are so self-absorbed...with their complicated shoes...they deserve it.

Not at all. I had several classes where the attendance diminished throughout the semester. i assumed people were dropping. until the final exam, when the class room was as full as it was the first day.
And that "class participation counts" claim was always bullshit.

Not 'smart' from a public relations perspective, that's for sure. Now get me on the list for hourlong massage and bring me a hot herbal tea while I wait in my bathrobe!

Contracts prof ran a random-call Socratic method classroom. If you got called on and were unexcusedly not present, you had one more strike before he failed you. My friends told me I got called on once when I was not present. I was in my chair at 8:40 every day thereafter. In retrospect, they may have been jerking my chain.
An undergrad friend claimed to have read 100% of all assigned reading in her classes. I would be shocked if I reached 20%.

I had one prof who said she would flunk anyone who missed class unless they proved to her satisfaction that they were sick. She got the flu twice that semester from students who staggered into her office in their jammies gacking germs at her.

Otherwise, that 40 year old tool in the front row who thought he was in a remake of the Paper Chase would have been valedictorian.
I used to get called on all the time because I worked at a firm in town in my non-school hours and had to wear a suit to class a lot. Whenever I'd do the "pass" thing, this one professor used to berate me as I left class, saying "Maybe if you didn't work, you'd be able to answer." Peckerhead once made me read a case while the class waited. I just ran the clock. Sooner or later, one of us was bound to break, and I knew the class didn't give a shit about sitting in silence, so I just read along and waited. After about three minutes he angrily said "We'll get back to you" but he never did.
Law school is amazing. Its the only place you'll ever spend lots money to get berated by drunks.

After NYE, I think I tend to agree. Martinis hurt. I think I am going to focus more on vodka drinks in 2004. Unfortunately, I enjoy the occasional Red Bull with my vodka. I'm not sure, but I think that particular cocktail may not be so great for you. But, you know, I gotta live my life the way I live my life. I'm not really sure what that means.

Serves her right.
I thought you had to have and enforce an attendance policy in order to maintain your status as an accreditted law school?

Agreed. I loved Knight's press conferences and thought the IU Pres who fired him was a candy-ass. Of course, I'd sooner eat glass than play for a guy like that and my suspicion is he was fired on a pretext because the Pres knew Knight would never be able to recruit because no marquis player with half a shred of sense would play for the asshole.
Is the shitting in the middle of the court story true?

I think my school's policy was: "attendance at classes is expected, and unexplained absences are cause for a failing grade." evidently the accreditors found that sufficient. or the piece of vellum i got is even more worthless than i had thought.
