Advice for Coltrane

Really? I thought the highspeed trains in France were great. Or maybe I am whiffing.

In any event, to add to the marriage advice, don't live in a jurisdiction without no-fault divorce laws.

And that is my last word on the subject because I am generally pro-marriage and wouldn't want to imply otherwise by harping on divorce.

You are correct. I guess France is predominantly Catholic. I'm not sure why I thought they were Protestants.

Italy/Spain = terrible trains.

Is it a "running on time" problem, or are there too many fats trying to wedge their biomass into a single space?

Fats? None when I was there, unless you're talking about the 60 year old Italian men with gnocchi bellies.

The Italian trains are slow and unreliable, especially compared to the German/French trains.

New Zealand,
I received no help on this good faith inquiry yesterday from the PB, perhaps because it involved human interaction, the PB denezins were without moorings to offer advice. Here I know I'll get answers.

a friend lives in Dunedin New Zealand- beautiful culturally advanced etc.

He wants to spend time in the States and the only way to get an extended stay visa is to teach. apparently some areas offer programs- problem is it looks like it mostly Mayberry where they need them. So he's telling me chances are best for him to get a job in South Carolina.

Q1- should I recommend not living in backwoods, and certainly not SC?
Q2- he said Va. and NC are also possible- I was going to suggest that he fight for those if for no other reason than he'll be closer to cities. Agree?

I mean in a way its not my business, but if he's complaining about snake handlers at church a year from now, I'll feel like I should have done something.

I had some in-laws that didn't like the German trains.

It couldn't be me. I'm a suburbanite and I don't ride the el with the proles. Our train seats have room for two fat asses and a couple bags of suasage rolls in between.

It's totally different when you go with a charter. I bet they had no input on their travel arrangements or accomodations whatsoever.

Dissent. They may run slower than their neighbors, but Italian trains leave on time and arrive on time. It's one of the ways Mussolini gained power - by using extreme government power to ensure the trains ran to schedules. The people loved it because it brought order in an era of uncertainty. Of course, at that time they thought they were just getting an efficient train system, and not a government that was weaseling into all facets of life. It took 20ish years to recognize that and string Mussolini up by his ankles in the town square.

I know they were one way tickets, and no assigned seats

Yeah, but unless he's got a big dick and looks like Gwinky, I'll crush him like a bug.

What do you mean you got no help? It would suck for somebody from a crappy country, let alone a place that is stunningly beautiful and populated by adventurous, friendly and open-minded people. About the only thing he might find homey about the backwoods part of SC is the population density, but other than that, crap. That's not to say he'd particularly enjoy all the cities in the U.S., either.
