The best watches the Mr. and my father ever had, per them, were fake rolexes purchased in Kuala Lumpur and South-Central LA respectively. My father's lasted for 30 years and kept excellent time. The Mr.'s stepfather crammed his real rolex in a drawer and stole the Mr.'s fake because the $15,000 watch was a POS. Grand fountain pens make about as much sense to me as expensive watches, but no one claims any sort of superior utility justification for fountain pens.)C
I tend to agree with this, although I'd creep into the lower three digits, which can mean a signifigant upgrade in the materials of the case/band. Battery powered quartz movements keep better time than a mechanical watch by several orders of magnitude.

Desperately Seeking Lisa

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- E! Entertainment Television said Tuesday that it has greenlighted an unscripted series that will follow newly single singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb as she re-enters the dating world.

The eight-episode series, titled "#1 Single," will feature Loeb as she moves back to New York and starts dating again for the first time since college. The half-hour series is set to premiere in January.

...

"I decided to do this TV series because what I do as a musician and songwriter is connect to an audience, so why not take that to another level," Loeb said.

[I believe that translates to "I decided to do this TV series because I am desperately seeking an audience on TV in the same manner I am as a musician and songwriter." That being said, she seems like a spunky type that may provide a good show.]

Unrelated question: I've been told I'm going to have to decorate my own office at my new firm. I'm not coming in as a partner. Once I start there will be 6 full time lawyers, 4 of whom are partners. Does this sound right? They all have really nicely furnished offices. How hosed am I?

Animal Planet Reality Show To Put Bear, Antelope, Hawk, Cheetah In Same House
November 16, 2005 | Issue 41•46

LOS ANGELES—Cable network Animal Planet announced its most ambitious foray into reality-TV programming yet Monday with The Zoo, a weekly, hourlong show in which members of a diverse, all-animal cast square off in a single 3,200-square-foot home in the San Fernando Valley.

"Sparks—and fur—are sure to fly when animals from 11 different ecosystems share a single row house in trendy Echo Park," executive producer Stu Wolchek said. "For many of these wild, colorful, and totally unpredictable cast members, it's the first time they've ever seen a bison or sloth."

Wolchek added: "Some of these guys have never even lived under a roof."

According to the show's creator, former zoo director Loren De Jong, over 80 different species were auditioned to find the right mix of personalities. In addition to the red bear, African cheetah, hawk, and antelope, the house is occupied by an American bison, a field mouse, an Egyptian plover, a three-toed sloth, a goose, a crocodile, and a female lowland gorilla who is "very territorial of the bathroom."

Two cast members have a heated argument on The Animal Planet's new reality show The Zoo.

Springsteen's remastered Thunder Road sounds so good it's reason enough to buy the new box set. Like a vision she dances across the porch indeed.

You neglected to mention the depressing fact that this is a special 30th anniversary edition.

It's lower than your price range, but I have a good dozen swatches that I switch out depending on my mood, the time of year, and what I'm wearing. They're amazingly dependable, hold up well, and I probably will wear swatches until they stop making them. I bought my first (modern) swatch in 2001 after my highschool graduation present Fendi fell off my wrist and broke in Vegas. I still haven't bothered to get the Fendi fixed.

I did not neglect. I am in denial.

I don't know if this is better or worse...I'm trying to find cookie tins because last year at Christmas I didn't have enough and a squirrel got to eat some cookies intended for my mother.

My jeweler told me that Swatch owns many of the prestige brands of watches.

What does "decorate" mean? Are you supposed to bring in all of the furniture or are you talking about adornment, like rugs and artwork and maybe the chair?
