Peter Jackson's got no love for the Maori sound editors. Seriously though TM, you're right and all in talking about the nominees for all the awards, including the technical ones (but there were other minorities; Benecio del Toro, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Shoneh), but when you analyze the winners, you've got to consider this a bit of a fluky year b/c of all the Kiwis winning everything.

Now if you want to talk about Tolkien and his book being racist, that's a legit discussion (albeit a boring and overdone one).

Just be careful he doesn't start with gluing straw, or nailing LP's, to a wall in your rec. room.

I have heard lots of people say similar things about Naomi Watts, and I just don't get it. I think she's gorgeous. She looks slim without looking skeletal, and I think her face is open and friendly, and very attractive. She's maybe not as "interesting" looking as some other stars (like Nicole Kidman, for example -- who is also a stunner), but very beautiful.

And as for Liv Tyler -- I saw her within the last year at a store, and she is striking (she's at least 6 feet tall, if not taller). She's interesting looking and I think she's also beautiful.

He's more likely to try and con me into gettting a Le Corbusier chaise lounge, Eams chairs, Arco lamps, and Nogouchi coffee tables than he is to get cutsy with wall coverings. He's more of a Wallpaper than a TLC kind of guy. I worry more that he's going to dazzle me with stainless steel counters and cork floors than I am that the place will look bad after he's done with it. He half convinced me that an $18000 display kitchen at the Polyform showroom in Miami was not only a good deal, but a steal.

I wondered why Halle and Denzel weren't there to hand out the awards for Best Actor and Best Actress. Isn't that the way it usually works?

I find Naomi to be beautiful also. Too good for Heath Ledger in my book, but some people find him appealing, I guess.

I didn't see the academy awards, but I did see the movie Monster last night. I don't recall the last time I had a movie affect me so much, both during and after.

It was a hell of a movie, and a wonderful performance. She deserved that award for certain.

Someone has probably already said this, but as I am physically (meta- and otherwise) unable to "scroll then post", here it is:

They won 2 years ago. Last year's winners were Adrian Brody (who laid a big wet one one on Halle when he won last year -- hence the joke about the breath spray before announcing the Best Actress winner this year) and Nicole Kidman (and her other nose).

The only thing I found mildly amusing about Billy Crystal's schtick was during the "what's going through my mind" montage showing audience members' faces. For Julia Roberts: "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful; hate me because I'm rich." followed by the close-up on Oprah, "Don't you talk to me about rich, girlfriend."

Although the impromptu mugging after some random dude mentioned how he used to date Billy Crystal's cousin was somewhat droll.

I guess I'll see that movie -- the clip they showed of her performance didn't really convey much.

The one I won't see is Mystic River -- I can already tell it's way too depressing of a movie for me to see. Too bad, because I have heard the performances were very good.

And as for golf (that was the subject line at one point), I'm surprised no one has commented on Tiger's send-up of Bill Murray's character in Caddyshack (what was his name? Spackler or something?).

What struck me about the ad (aside from the humor quotient -- high, in my view) was how much you could tell how buff Tiger is. Dude! That guy is BUILT! (Not that I didn't know that, but you can't really tell when he's wearing his golf duds.)

Thanks for the answer. I must be getting old the way my years run together now. I think that the naked Billy Crystal opener was WAY more disturbing than the 1.8 second Janet boob flash, but maybe I'm alone in that thought.

Charlize's dress and body looked fabulous, but her skin and face, not so much. I assumed she had a spray on tan, which her makeup person then topped off with bronzer. Maybe someone with HDTV can chime in with an opinion.

This just brought a random thought to mind. I was watching Jerry mcGuire by accident at some point this weekend...and it reminded me that CUb Gooding Jr. did "Radio" this year. Not a great film by any stretch of hte imagination, but I thought he did an excellent job in it which I never saw mentioned anywhere in teh press this year.
