Because there is nothing else going on
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Rosamond Gifford Zoo — world prominent for its Asian elephant breeding program — is studying how feasible it would be to switch to animal crap as an alternative energy source to reduce its $400,000 annual heating and electricity bill.
I had no idea it took so much energy to run a zoo.
The zoo's six elephants produce more than 1,000 pounds of crap per day, said Zoo Director Anne Baker.
The zoo sends most of its animal crap to a local farm, where it is composted. The zoo spends about $10,000 a year on animal-crap disposal.
Although other zoos have come up with creative ways to reuse their elephant crap — including using it to make stationery — Rosamond Gifford appears to be the first to propose using it for power, according to Jane Ballentine, a spokeswoman for the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.
I can see it now, serve opposing counsel that motion for summary judgment on elephant crap stationery.
The zoo also will look at using the crap from its domestic farm animals, its other hoof stock, such as its bison and caribou, and even its lions and tigers, she said.
There's probably no good use for monkey crap. Other than the flinging.

I'm more likely to head to the Enron movie this weekend. It seems that Californians are particularly testy about the whole "we hit our profit margins by lowering supply/raising prices in California" aspect. At least based on my morning radio-listening today.

The thing I don't get with Worldcom or Enron or all them is that it seems the wrong people got blamed for the losses. We should expect CEOs to be greedy, we should expect outside accountants and lawyers to bend to greed and let the CEOs fuck the companies, but those companies all had big in house accounting and legal departments- those people had a duty to the shareholders to watch and protect and prevent- anybody know if the inhouse guys are in prison?

It's a zoo in Syracuse. It tends to get a bit chilly up there during the fall/winter/spring months.

Among its other problems, I don't think it was clear that this was the nature of the inquiry at the time.

I very poorly timed my stint in California and return to Texas. High energy prices and rolling blackouts when I lived there, and then depression and embarrassment when I moved back here.
The movie premired here last week. Apparently it was like a reunion for fucked over employees.

a friend lives in Dunedin New Zealand- beautiful culturally advanced etc.
He wants to spend time in the States and the only way to get an extended stay visa is to teach. apparently some areas offer programs- problem is it looks like it mostly Mayberry where they need them. So he's telling me chances are best for him to get a job in South Carolina.
Q1- should I recommend not living in backwoods, and certainly not SC?
Q2- he said Va. and NC are also possible- I was going to suggest that he fight for those if for no other reason than he'll be closer to cities. Agree?
I mean in a way its not my business, but if he's complaining about snake handlers at church a year from now, I'll feel like I should have done something.

No. It is not even O.K. to be proud of your accomplishments, since these are simply based on your intelligence, perserverance, and other characteristics you were born with and over which you ultimately have no control.
I am nonetheless proud of my enormous writhing love anaconda.

I think it is probably only okay to be proud of being "old money." You have better bone structure or something.
