But it reminds me of a serious on-topic question I have. About jelly. Jelly handbags. I have noticed, of late, the strange appearance of fake Birkin bags, obviously fake because they are made out of neon or pastel colored jelly plastic or rubber. They may or may not be translucent.

Now, first, I have to admit that I find the emergence of gleefully and obviously fake Birkin bags (as opposed to serious knock-off Birkin bags) to be pretty funny. Second, I have to admit that I am thinking of getting a couple of them for my mother and m-i-l for mothers day. However, this gift will be more amusing (and appreciated) if these fake Birkin bags are considered more "street" than "suburban," and I'm really not sure which they are. I guess it depends a lot on whether or not people buy them because they think a sartorial joke about Birkin bags (e.g.: if you assholes make the waiting list long enough the cool people will just ignore you and get the same thing in chinese rubber for $100) is funny, or if people get them and say "ooh, this bag looks just like one I saw on SATC!!" Any opinions are welcome.

Of course, I will probably go ahead and get them either way. I have a miserable time coming up with mothers day gifts, and at least they would both get the "are you calling me martha stewart?" element of the joke.
