I used to take a cab every day to work (same problem -- work and home are not easily connected by public transportation), but now I take the bus from my son's school to work, because work and son's school ARE conveniently (and happily) linked by public transport.

I take one home from work almost everyday (3-4 times per week). It's only $5.
I walk the other times.

I think we should give the fans steroids. At least it will be a fair fight going forward.

There's a non-answer answer if I ever saw one.

Why? She asked if I was the one who took a cab to work every day -- so I explained that I was that person, but that I am no longer that person, because I now take the bus to work.
If you're wondering how much $$ I spend on cabs, I'm not going to tell you. I am ashamed (a la Jacque from Finding Nemo).
eta: Thanks RP. You may speak for me anytime. We're the same person anyway, right?

We were also not allowed to watch Hogan's Heroes. But we did anyway. My mother also had a problem with Eight is Enough. But I think that is just because she's insane.

Sometimes we got plastic lunch bags, but we had to bring them back so that they could be washed and reused. All of this was fine when we lived in hippie land, but kids in the deep south are a wee bit suspicious of peanut butter that is not homogenized.

When I got old enough and smart enough, I started buying "sugar cereals" with my own money. Since my parents also encouraged us to make our own decisions, be relatively independent, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, they had a hard time arguing against this.
The cereal thing also fell apart when my father (who was not as freaky as my mother on this stuff) bought one of those packages of multiple boxes of different kinds of cereals, and my mother discovered how much she likes Frosted Flakes.

I'm not proud of how much I spend on parking and gas, especially considering how close my home and office are to Metro stops, how short my trip is (5 miles), but I doubt anybody would ever ask, because driving and parking are either god-given or constitutionally-granted rights in this country.

What is that, 1.6 miles? For shame. That's a 15 minute walk. You would have $20 more per week left over to buy porn and beer.

But less time to enjoy it, unless he first used his savings to buy a portable DVD player and a beer helmet, and watched and drank during the walk home. Of course then it would take more time to recoup his "investment."

Oh, please. Don't EVEN get me started on the cereals. The most exotic brand we were allowed to have was Rice Krispies (but at least it was a name brand, and not from the organic food store and made of kelp). When we would visit my grandmother, we were allowed to have ONE junk box of cereal for the whole week. (I can't remember whether it was one box each, or one box for all of us... perhaps it was one box each.) It was a pretty big deal when we would go to the supermarket to pick any cereal we wanted!! I remember being pretty loyal to King Vitaman (I can't remember if it was spelled that way or not -- but it was definitely pronounced Vita-Man -- the jingle was: "King Vita-Man -- have breakfast with the King!" -- man, what a crappy jingle, although I guess not, as I still remember it with perfect clarity.) I also liked Frosted Flakes. My brother was a Captain Crunch man.
|
King Vitaman was the best! That stuff was like crack. But I couldn't figure out why. It was like Captain Crunch but way way better.

same here. As a kid, however, I was a horse of a different color.
I have no idea if that metaphor applies, I just wanted to use it.
