Spelling (Bee) Question

On Celebrity Spelling Bee on Friday night, somebody got the word "Supercede."

That's how the celebrity spelled it, and got credit for it as a correct answer.

Dictionary.com does not recognize supercede. It does recognize supersede, with the usual definition.

So who's right? The producers of "Celebrity Spelling Bee" or dictionary.com?

By the way, Brett Butler's comeback and eventual victory was quite impressive. It looked like Thicke and Wendt were the class of the field, but both got bounced in the semis.

Another observation, neither Gina Lee Nolan nor the 10 year old champ they had to help out the celebs knew how to spell bustier. And the funniest moment involved Corbin Bernsen (no surprise). He got the word prestidigitation, and based on the reactions of the host (J. Peterman) and the other contestants, he was probably standing there for 30 minutes trying to work it out. He got it wrong. They edited it to normal speed, but from the reactions of the people, and from what I've seen of Corbin on celebrity mole, he probably spent more time than that, actually.

Anecdote: I was on a people answering questions game show. No time limit. One woman spent about 15 minutes thinking about a question. They edited it like she answered it right away, of course.

Give the man a drink on me!!!

Other than this Passion film thing, is there any issue less worth discussion than the alleged marriage definition amendment?

Bush (1) knows the amendment will NEVER go anywhere and (2) has no intention of pushing it any further than he has to to get the dumb bigoted white trash Jesus Nuts in the Bible belt to vote for him in November.

This debate will spasm and dart about the talk shows, oped pages and conservative speech circuit like a lost bird in your living room. It'll pinball around in no particular direction and slam into a sliding glass window just after the second week in November. No point in even watching - just wait for it to die to clean the shit off the glass.

No, someone sent me that image years ago, way before Shallow Hal. I think it was an old www.rotten.com image.

Its some horror movie prop.

Au contraire, mon frer - that was merely a retaliatory strike for deleting my Lebowski quote.

Yes, when I was 12. The game show, though off the air for maybe 18 years, still has a website with some particularly embarassing photos of a prepubescent Flinty, in all his geekdom. I lost to a college student. Fucker.

Yeah, both are overrated. Porn of either would be useless to me.

I'll admit I miss New Jersey a little bit. Especially that rest stop near Trenton where I lost my virginity...

I thought she looked beautiful. I was incredibly attracted. But I thought she was David Bowie. NTTAWWT. Is there?

Spicolli was his zenith.

It was a very low zenith.
You're fucking kidding me. Sean Penn created a character that a generation defined. He not only became his character, he inhabited his character so well that it became the template upon which other bad movie characters were based. Like Brando in The Wild Ones. Like James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. Like the mirrored sunglassed cop in Cool Hand Luke. Like Matt McCaughnehey in Dazed and Confused. Like the dude who played The Dude.

Only a truly great actor can take a throwaway role and make it truly memorable. Fast Times had immeasurable appeal. Would it have had such appeal, if, when Judge Reinhold's character (the ever responsible Brad) asked Spicollli after receiving a handful of change, "Why don't you get a job, Spicolli?" Spicolli answers, innocently, without a hint of sarcasm, "What for?"

He's got his toasty buds. His tasty waves. What more does he need? Spicolli isn't going to get caught on the endless cycle of work-produce-consume. He just is. He produces to meet his needs. Because if they weren't good enough, they wouldn't be called minimums.

And isn't that what we're all here for? Maximum $$$ at minimal effort? Sure, we all got duped (except for Sebby, whose life is like this), but isn't Spicolli's self-actulization something we should all aspire to? If you disagree, please indicate by ordering me a pizza during our next conference call. I promise that it will be OUR pizza.
