Then definitely go for the alcohol. Or an ice pack.
Ultrasound works if you can find someone to do it on short notice.

Yes. Therma-care pads. Lifesavers.

Heating pad? I have one of those buckwheat pillows that you put in the microwave, and I LOVE it on neck/back/shoulder pain. It's a nice wet heat that seems to just draw the aches out of you. The only problem is that it cools off after maybe half an hour so it's important to have a microwave nearby.
Something like this or this. I've seen them in the health/beauty section at Whole Foods.

I left the hot thing at home because I'm an idiot. I'm going to the dr. in an hour or so -- I give up. ETA there is a drugstore in the dr. bldg where I should be able to pick up something that emits heat.
Thanks, y'all.

She kept saying she did want to go out but I think she is nervous because she doesn't know who I am. - actually this is waste of time because there is no way to know what she is thinking and she may not even know what she is thinking.

I am wonking and have no idea what the background is to this story, but you should call her, tell her you made plans for whatever day you were going to go out with her, tell her you'd love to see her some other time and let her know that she should definitely feel free to call anytime.
You will become someone who doesn't need her and might not even be interested. This will trigger her ego and her curiosity. She will call. And if she doesn't, you weren't going to get anywhere anyway.

Something like this.

Oh yeah, those are great. The weight is also nice. It just rests right where you need it. It's like a warm hug.

These things seem to make me nauseous, if that's possible.

I have something similar. Works well for headaches, too.

Oh the humanity, etc.
I suggest everyone buy stock in ibuprofen.

I had this ahppen a couple of years ago. It can, unfortunately, last days. But here are two things that will help.
First, take a Tylenol too. Don't double up on another pain killer, though. Mix Tylenol with anything, but the others shouldn't be mixed.
Second, do the following exercises (they will hurt, but do them slowly and periodically, and your neck will loosen up. Doing them in the shower really helps.)
1) Rotate your head slowly from side to side, on a single plane, three or four times. Key here is slowly.
2) Tip your head back and then all the way forward, again in one plane, again slowly, again 3 or 4 times.
3) Tip you head side to side slowly, again in the same plane, etc. First exercise is like a record player, the third is like a windshield wiper.
Do these every couple of hours, but especially in the shower. You may find it easier to play with the order. These are difficult at first when you're in pain, but they will help.
