Starting a small law firm we spent 300K before we saw our first dime back.
I don't know when your mom started her restaurant and don't know if dad kept working, but 30K wouldn't get you too far today.

I never said starting a law firm was cheap. $300k seems like a small investment for a firm.
Dad was the breadwinner. Now that I think of it, the restaurant was more of a hobby. A 15-hour per day hobby.

Trivia board games to play?
I'm not going to invest a ton of effort just to pass the audition process, but if I get on, I'm going to be willing to work very very hard to become a trivia machine. So ideas anyone???

Read a lot of almanacs and atlases. Also, head over to www.wikipedia.org and start flipping through.
My law school classmate who was on Jeopardy said that the hardest part once she was on the show was getting to the buzzer fast enough. I'd play a lot of video games before hand if you make it onto the show.

Can you buzz before the question is completed on Jeopardy?

I didn't think so, which is silly. You should be able to answer the question when you think you know the answer. If you can predict the question and comprehend it more quickly than others, you should be able to answer it.

I think one of the Baristas is pulling a fast one on you. Didn't Hank or somebody talk about this?

Well, I'm sure they're looking for ways to tinker with a formula that's been succesful for 20 years.
BTW, how do they do it on the video screen? Dribble it out letter by letter?

Right. I guess what I meant was, can you buzz in before Trebek finishes the question? Not before the question (answer) appears on the board?

NHL
Not that it wasn't obvious before, but it's pretty clear the season is done now.
What about next year? Will anything change that would allow the league to start on time then?
BTW, there's some top-notch college hockey on tap this weekend, for those in the right places.

The answer is still no--it's when Trebek finishes. That's why you'll sometimes see the contestants looking like heroin-addicted rats slapping at the feeder bar, except with the buzzer handles.
It's not like the rule is unfair, just different. It rewards teh person who knows the answer more than the person who rolls the dice. How annoying would it be to have someone who always buzzes in first, is wrong, and thus chops up the questions? I say very.
BTW, this is not something I lie awake at night thinking about.

No, nimrod, because as everybody knows, the question is the answer on Jeopardy. Duh.

Grab a bag of cheetos, sit your ass down on the couch with your nephew, take a few bong hits, and tune into Fox Sports World. Watch the crybabies clutching their ankles in the English Premier League. Or maybe Ironweak's new favorite, the German Bundesliga. You might learn something. Open your mind. Warning: Each half is 45 minutes of continuous playing with no commercial breaks. Warning: Appreciating the sport involves appreciating something other than just scoring, because scoring occurs less often than in, say, basketball. But you are a hockey fan, so I assume you already understand the beauty of the well-placed pass and the phenomenal save.
