[i]CRAWFORD, Texas — President Bush, as he readied the federal government for a massive relief effort, on Sunday urged people in the path of Hurricane Katrina to forget anything but their safety and move to higher ground as instructed.
“We cannot stress enough the danger this hurricane poses to Gulf Coast communities,” Bush said as the storm roared across the gulf toward New Orleans and other communities. “I urge all citizens to put their own safety and the safety of their families first by moving to safe ground.”
Separately, he spoke by phone with the governors of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
What more do you need to know? there was a plan, there was capability and he did nothing. Can you honestly not see why this is essentially a tacit defence of his inaction? Why can't you admit he dropped the ball and people died?
the rest of your post is meaningless. You criticise Bush for not coming in and helping the dead and dying and suffering but you won't criticise the guy who didn't give them an opportunity to not be in the position. Despite a plan and the means to effect it. You seem to want dead people or poor beleagured evacuees to rise up on the issue. I don't think they have the time or the means. they are trying to survive. And as to the question of what to do with them once they were on the buses, I would rather be alive and in a way station somewhere else then dead or trapped in the Superdome. If they were somewhere out of the zone, it would have made it much easier for the Feds to come in and help them.

P daddy, we've won this one. I think you can move on now. Once we have 3 more senate seats we'll be getting blamed for everything, so save your energy for then.

The Police state cometh.....
Apparently the Second Amendment has been suspended in New Orleans, except for the rich people.
NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 8 - Waters were receding across this flood-beaten city today as police officers began confiscating weapons, including legally registered firearms, from civilians in preparation for a mass forced evacuation of the residents still living here.
No civilians in New Orleans will be allowed to carry pistols, shotguns or other firearms, said P. Edwin Compass III, the superintendent of police. "Only law enforcement are allowed to have weapons," he said.
But that order apparently does not apply to hundreds of security guards hired by businesses and some wealthy individuals to protect property. The guards, employees of private security companies like Blackwater, openly carry M-16's and other assault rifles. Mr. Compass said that he was aware of the private guards, but that the police had no plans to make them give up their weapons.
Bush must have gotten to Compass to get this done.

This is an abomination. Martial law and police powers were put there so that government could act nobly to protect Good American citizens by interning the Japanese or holding traitors and terrorists in Guantanamo or deporting colored folks without process, not to prevent citizens from exercising their God-given right to bear arms. This is an abuse of the power even greater than those practiced by Mr. Lincoln during the War Between the States.
Still, it is good to see you back to alienating posters here rather than everywhere.

I can't believe you called Hank a dumb-ass. I thought I was the only dumb-ass in your life. You are cheating on me. You told me I was special and that I was the only one. So typical. Just goes to show you, you can't trust dinasours.

I think I have demonstrated that I loathe Saddam Hussein and that I think he is one of the worst dictators the world has ever seen. But I think that statistic is wrong. I think he killed (only - if I can say that without sounding callous') 18,000 Kurds. He may have killed 180,000 people total but that number of Kurds is to high. I think there is only four million Kurds in the whole country and I don't think killed one in twenty. I could be wrong, but I was having an argument with someone that Saddam has killed as many Iraqis as have died in the war. I think the number was pretty close. If he killed 180,000 Kurds, let alone Shitties and everyone else, then the number would not have been close. Does anyone have another number?

I apologise I had work to do. And my posts lack your flair and entertainment value. So what do you need me for anyway? I am still trying to learn your detached ironic style. I am clearly second string.

FWIW, far as I know Ty in the past has always managed to refrain from calling other posters dumbasses before this, so perhaps you can take some solace in being his first. Hank, not so much.

The way I read that article it is over a long period, twenty plus years. I think he probably killed 18K in the aftermath of the Gulf War. Its Australian media and Ty has some issues with having to go to Australia for source material, so that makes me fairly confident its good info. I believe Saddam killed way more than have died in the war, google "Molly Ivens" and "apology" to find the data on that one.
