What I don't understand is how the airlines still allow for lap children? They're not buckled in. Everyone else is. Do you have super arms so that in the event of something happening - like the door blows off like that plane in Maui? How can they still allow this? Notwithstanding Burger's water landing fiasco where no one survives, some people do.

I generally agree that you're not obligated to give up a good seat for a shitty one, but you know, sometimes, people do buy their tickets in advance and get screwed on seat assignments, even if they're not super cheap seats. So what's wrong with asking for a favor? You won't get the change unless you ask. Of course, regardless of the circumstances, it's rude to be obnoxious to someone for saying no, but that doesn't make it rude to ask.
To pretend that seat assignments are entirely within a person's control, when so much other shit related to flying is by your own admission not, is silly.
|
Asking is rude. You're unfairly putting someone in a very tight and shitty position. The guy was minding his own business, no hurting anyone, and now, for no reason of his own, he's left with either keeping a seat and feeling guilty (and possibly looking bad to other unreasonable people around him) or suffering with a lousy seat. The considerate thing to do is ask someone with a comparable seat near your family member to swap.

Thanks for that Friday does of optimism.
Actually, I know someone who was on a plane where someone fired a gun (pre 9/11) and it blew a whole in the fuselage and a guy nearby got sucked out of the plane. I think everyone else survived. So there you go.

Just The paste from the prior quote. I was just surprised not just in the content but the effort to find it. My posts here are generally because I'm too lazy to actually work. I'm always quite amazed by the people who go to the trouble of creating a sock or researching infirm posts from 3 years ago.
When I actually can apply myself I work.

My rule is that if they are willing to move back in the plane, I will give them my seat. If they want me to move back, fuck them. They could ask the person next to the other person in the worse row.
