Not that it hasn't been simply charming...

I assume, although citing the inability to consummate might not play well in the sticks.
And, since Brittney's "catholic" perhaps she doesn't want a divorce. Isn't that why Ted Kennedy paid the church to get his first marriage, of many years, annulled?
ETA: Oops. That's Joe Kennedy who did the twelve-years-after annulment.
|
See, that's why I asked in the first place. If she gets it annulled in Vegas, doesn't she still have to get the church to recognize it, and if it's been consummated, isn't that a higher burden? See, not being a Catholic, I do not know these things and I didn't know that Brittney was Catholic. Seems to me that friend's husband who had been divorced and was trying to get remarried in the Catholic church had to really jump through hoops to get previous marriage annulled "in the eyes of the church."
Or is it all out the window now that the Catholic church is all messed up?

I always got the sense that you were the bitch in the relationship.
As far as the divorce, probably has something to do with community property laws. One assumes they didn't have a pre-nup. If she is a CA resident he should dig his heels in and demand half. It would be fun to watch.

Well, Atticus is curiously silent, but I think the critical difference is that an annulment doesn't count as far as the church is concerned. It's like it never happened. Which matters, since you can't get divorced.
So, since it's annulled, she has no 'splaining to do. Of course, if she got married in the little white chapel, it's not really a valid catholic wedding anyway, so she's still free to marry for the first time there.
but she has to say 50 hail marys first. and quit using birth control.

I know you don't like the term, "whiff," but you keep using it without using it, you know.

I wonder how much she makes in a day and a half. May be worth his legal expenses to go after it.

(My Civ Pro book had, next to every case discussed, a handy guide that said "Nutshell says:" vs "Prof X says:".) Man was I pissed when a new edition had come out. But mostly I passed the time passing funny notes and taunting the Mormon next to me with huge cups of latte.

My response to the socratic method was:
1. Long diatraibe with many tangents, spoken slowly with a lot of umms in between, sprinkled with enough substance so that the professor realized I was king of the bullshit answer. Usually safe for the rest of the year.

Yeah, he would have refused to sign the annulment papers if he were smart. Because holding out on the signing could have been a windfall for a guy from Mississippi. Maybe he needs a lawyer.

If I had been paying attention would I likely know the answer to my question?
If I extrapolated with one brain cell based upon what we have discussed would I be able to answer my question?
Am I changing facts to create a hypo?*
Is my question so esoteric, that it is only of interest to me, and is something I should discuss with Prof after class?
*our worst guy would always say "What if,......" One of out Prof's was Nat'l expert in a particular field, but teaching Civ Pro. That is egotistical, but feeling beneath himself in the class. He had a notorious temper. Best moment for this guy was when he asked "What if..." for the 10th time, and the Prof ambles over to the guy's front row seat, leans over, palms on guy's desk, starts taking deep breathes trying to control anger, and fails, bursting out with "THAT"S NOT EVEN A QUESTION!!!!"

Yes, but for $20k the rest of us don't want to listen to you yap. We paid to hear the professional.
Most irritating person in law school was a person who went by 3 names (e.g. Mary Tyler Moore) and signed up for every freaking moot court competition that ever came up. Of course she was also teacher's pet and talked through class - incessantly - it was so annoying. I did not pay $20k to listen to her yap for an hour every freakin day. I would have killed her if I could have gotten away with it.
Oh, and Marino. For sure.
