Nope, that was Reagan.
BTW -- your forced evacuation plan (yanking people from homes) doesn't work well for a hurrcane because the precise course/strength is relatively unpredictable.
You're right that Nagin and the State would have been excused for doing so after people saw what Katrina did, but what about the last six big hurricanes that just missed NO?
Do you do this to people every year? Not practical. Voluntary evacuation orders _and_ probably organizing and executing a city/state sponsored way to be sure everyone _can_ get out is the way to go in the first instance.

P.S. You're aboslutely right, Penske. FEMA was masterful, Chertoff and Brown are geniuses, and Bush is a near-deity. I see the light.
[Seriously, y'all, I've heard that I'm up for the nomination to replace Brown after this settle down. Why not? I'm a big-firm litigator, after all -- and what are the odds of this happening again? Hank -- you can be my Press Secretary.]

Not according to the Poll -- the phrasing of the headline is a bit misleading. Carter beats his ass in that poll -- must be all the houses he has built.

I hear the WH is calling in Ed Helms to discuss his idea of building a huge dam in Alabama.

The Police state cometh.....
She admitted she was wrong, and wrote an entire column devoted to an abject apology for her error and her fialure to check those facts.
That's more than Bush has ever done.

Yes, I saw that later but was too preoccupied to change it.
The real question is, Would Bush beat Nixon? Tough call, tough call. I say no, but only because of China. Others will disagree, pointing to the Checkers speech, but I don't include that as it occurred before Tricky Dick's time in the WH.

You can't do that if you're Republican. It's in the bylaws or something. When was the last time a Republican issued an abject apology for anything (not counting the ones who were in the middle of sentencing) ?

Celebrate our freedom!
Want to participate in the Pentagon's "America Supports You Freedom Walk" on 9/11? Better plan ahead...
- Organizers of the Pentagon's 9/11 memorial Freedom Walk on Sunday are taking extraordinary measures to control participation in the march and concert, with the route fenced off and lined with police and the event closed to anyone who does not register online by 4:30 p.m. today.
The march, sponsored by the Department of Defense, will wend its way from the Pentagon to the Mall along a route that has not been specified but will be lined with four-foot-high snow fencing to keep it closed and "sterile," said Allison Barber, deputy assistant secretary of defense.
The U.S. Park Police will have its entire Washington force of several hundred on duty and along the route, on foot, horseback and motorcycles and monitoring from above by helicopter. Officers are prepared to arrest anyone who joins the march or concert without a credential and refuses to leave, said Park Police Chief Dwight E. Pettiford.
One restricted group will be the media, whose members will not be allowed to walk along the march route. Reporters and cameras are restricted to three enclosed areas along the route but are not permitted to walk alongside participants walking from the Pentagon, across the Memorial Bridge to the Mall.
Apparently only those screened and vetted will be permitted to celebrate their freedoms. Dissenters need not apply. On the plus side, to breach security all that stands in your way is a snow fence.

By the way, Bush had the option of ordering the airlines to stay in the air and the New Orleans airport to have stayed open when it closed two days before the storm. The airlines didn't want to fly because their planes were empty going in, even if they were full going out.
Let's see. Assume the airport could have handled 20 planes an hour for 18 hours on just one day. That's 360 planes. Now lets assume they hold 150 people each (roughly the average capacity of planes in Delta's fleet). That's 54,000 people. On one day. Without crowding.
Instead, the planes left the city.
What about the Planes! What about the Planes!

Who do you think the Dems will run to get their 48% of the popular vote in '08?

Cool, and since it's a Republican administration we won't have to hire fat girls for intern positions, right?

Do you prefer the grape or strawberry flavor of the KoolAid? Just running a survey.
eta: I figured a Nixon reference had to bring Hank running.

I don't like that "is being removed" part. Who removed him?
