I had thought that the discussions earlier today were about toy guns, not real guns. The guns bilmore is discussing sound like real guns. Which is completely different -- I can see the Army stepfather being more okay with real hunting guns for older children than he is with fake guns for younger children.

I grew up with lots of toy guns, toy swords, real guns, knives, fireworks, army men, matches, lighters, chemical weaponry, etc. It was only much later that I realized that this was probably the reason the other kids liked playing with me so much. Well, at least the non-maimed ones.

Now that I'm older, I use the same tactics; I just tape twenties to my clothes and bam--a cloud of stripper glitter appears.

eta: P.S. Reggie, wherever you are, I'm sorry I shot you. But you shouldn't walk in front of a 11 y.o. with a pellet gun.

Wow, that seems like a sort of fucked up game, projecting onto one's toys the combined subconscious fear of parental death/abandonment and the safe, inclusive, non-judgmental atmosphere of dodgeball team selection.

BR(oh, Miss Polly Prissy Pants, I'm afraid no one loves you, so you won't be adopted and you'll never have parents again ever!)C

Never any hint or affect or pressure from me. Just too many relatives, friends, etc., who hunt. (Oh, and too may weekends where we go out and, if you aren't carrying and licensed, all you can do is watch, so I guess maybe there is some pressure from me after all, 'cuz I'm the one that takes 'em.) Plus, in our snooty little burb, I think the hunting thing has a decidedly retro-MadMax image amongst the kiddie set. Youngest Baggins-chile seems to like throwing her I-got-it-from-the-hip-as-it-flushed stories amongst her buds' isn't-my-pony-pretty stories.

Indeed. Thank God the Scouts have that policy in effect:

"Dont ask, don't tell (or otherwise build intricate models hinting at it made from wood chips, maple sap, wild mint and straw)."

Sometimes dodgeball is just dodgeball. The competitiveness associated with top law educations and careers, however, probably has more to do with unfulfilled wishes to satisfy others than most other paths . . .

Yeah, I never claimed we weren't fucked up. Though I doubt we had abandonment concerns at the time, as we used to fight about who was adopted, from the perspective that being adopted was better than actually being born to these people. And therefore sharing genes with them.

Actually, I think the ellipsis does it.

Is it the snotty suburb that you live in (despite your scorn for people who live in such places and are otherwise conspicuous consumers) that has taught you this?

"Snooty". Please read more carefully. I think Hank has mentioned this to you.

I figured it was a typo on your part. And that was not actually responsive. And Hank is really not a good one to cite to on that topic.
