Good point. I allowed my inner plaintiff lawyer to speak for a second, and was wrong. The releases may be artfully and carefully drafted, but they themselves do not lie. http://www.slate.com/id/2151990/

I don't think that they even let people from Flint into Grosse Point. Hank?

If the producers of Borat are so desirous of getting reality, why do they lie in the releases?

Time has passed Grosse Pointe by. People like Coltrane live there now.

Bloomfield Hills is it now.

I had a client lunch at the Bloomfield Open Hunt Club a while back. i don't know what the "open" means because it is decidely not public.

Anyway, I pulled into a parking lot, and was suprised to see "Proud Parent of an Honor Student at Roseville HS." I was SHOCKED because Roseville is the lower class burb where I was raised, and it is 20 miles away from Bloomfield. It didn't really make sense that people from Roseville would be Hunt clubbing. It took me about 2 minutes to realize I had pulled into the staff lot.

So, point is, Flint people can probably come into GP. They just have to be wearing a uniform.

What about fans in sports arenas? They're made to look like asses on camera all the time. And what of Steve Bartman? Did he give his permission to be made to look like an ass for all time (at least in Chicago)?

"documentary-style" and marketed to young adults with entertaining content? Hope that $200 was used well.

The releases that I have seen were deliberately misleading. For the right client (i.e., one whose alleged damages are not based upon the fact that one revealed oneself to be a racist idiot on camera), I suspect that the releases won't hold enough water to get SBC and Fox a dismissal or summary judgment.
Ah. I see. And somehow the ability to withstand summary judgment has suddenly become the same as a claim with merit?

And I don't understand how the two racists idiots' claim will be any different from anyone else's who signed the waiver (which I haven't seen and would love to see copies of -- send 'em on). At least they were kind of drunk. Why would any other claim survive summary judgment if they weren't drunk? Did they use different waivers for different people based on how stupid or drunk they were?

It may be. But that scene wasn't used in the movie. And they probably didn't use it because they didn't have signed waivers. Either way, I'm sure they didn't film the guy's cock.

I resent the fact that a film studio can do things that would get normal people arrested. Take a film crew with you into the bathroom at the 21 Club, walk into the stall as a guy is trying to take a leak, film him, and see how amused the NYPD is about it.
This makes less than no sense. It has nothing to do with the studio. The guy didn't know the camera was in there because it was hidden. If I were to do what they did, the camera would be hidden as well. Either way, the cops would probably arrest whoever was involved.

Well, then waht you're really saying is, "You can't make a movie with this kind of stuff." Because the whole point is to not use actors. The whole genre is based on placing a character in real situations. Don't pretend like the two things are synonymous or even similar. The fact that these people aren't actors is the whole point. And the fact that real people were involved speaks directly to my point about him exposing anti-semitism.

I think your ticket says "I may be photographed."

As far as Dateline, they are reporting news, not making an entertainment show. So if you are news, as these perverts are, they can put you on w/o a release.

Or so they'll argue.

This is exactly what I was talking about. Either go see the movie or stop fucking talking about the one scene that you seem to think characterizes the whole film. If you want to ignore the message that he was slipping in between childish jokes (to an audience who wouldn't ordinarily listen to this type of message), then at least go see the movie and actively ignore it.

Michael Moore could have hired an actor to play Roger Smith in Roger & Me. Come to think of it, he could have hired actors to play the people getting evicted from their home. Or he could have hired an actor to play the little old lady on the golf course who said that the unemployed in Flint just needed to go out and get jobs. I'm not sure the impact would have been the same, though.
Michael Moore could have also hired a director, and then maybe his films would be watchable.

Just sayin'.

Doh. The footage from Defamer didn't look like it was from a hidden camera, but it must have been -- uh, delete that "with a camera guy" thing.
