Damn.
Quote:
SEN. COBURN: Well, I believe there's consequences to mistakes. I was quoted in the paper saying I think this has been handled in a very incompetent manner. And I believe most people -- I don't care which side of the aisle they are -- would agree with that.
U.S. attorneys' reputation, that were involved, has been harmed. The confidence in U.S. attorneys throughout this country has been damaged. The reputation of the Attorney General's Office has been tarnished and brought into question.
I disavow aggressively any implication that there was a political nature in this. I know that's the politics of the bloodsport that we're playing. I don't think it had anything to do with it. But to me, there has to be consequences to accepting responsibility. And I would just say it's -- Mr. Attorney General, it's my considered opinion that the exact same standards should be applied to you in how this was handled.
It was handled incompetently, the communication was atrocious, it was inconsistent. It's generous to say that there were misstatements; that's a generous statement. And I believe you ought to suffer the consequences that these others have suffered. And I believe the best way to put this behind us is
your resignation.

I'm very curious if this is one of those things that Bush is going to be irrationally stubborn on. I can't imagine that he'll have much support, but it doesn't seem that he cares about support much.

And we were playing so nice today and all. Well, fine then. This:

The viability and other bright line tests are useless. I much prefer talking with people who are either: (1) completely pro-choice, saying it's a matter between doc and woman (Sebby); or (2) someone who says "I know it's complicated but still, I am against killing fetuses at all" (total pro-life). ... Now, I could be with a pro-lifer or pro-choicer, as long as they weren't big proponents of the dreaded line tests.
|
This pretty fucking stupid. Both (1) and (2) are bright lines. Viability, which at least has the potential to be a fluid concept as medicine advances, is not.

I was just wanting to show off my knowledge and use the word implement.

www.gynocam.com? Not a valid source, Less.

While I agree, you do realize the rest of the country views viability as the bright line test, and that's never going to change.

"Implement," bah. "Speculum." Now that's gynoknowledge.
My buddy had one in high school. I'd like to say my girlfriend and I did something with it because that would be something I could tell a grandchild. Sadly, someone stole it a keg party before I had the right set of circumstance arise.

I think that the quotes Ty provided earlier from White House aides strongly indicate that Gonzales is gone. Their gums wouldn't flap like that if Bush was going to save him.

- President Bush Pleased with Attorney General's Testimony
President Bush was pleased with the Attorney General's testimony today. After hours of testimony in which he answered all of the Senators' questions and provided thousands of pages of documents, he again showed that nothing improper occurred. He admitted the matter could have been handled much better, and he apologized for the disruption to the lives of the U.S. Attorneys involved, as well as for the lack of clarity in his initial responses.
The Attorney General has the full confidence of the President, and he appreciates the work he is doing at the Department of Justice to help keep our citizens safe from terrorists, our children safe from predators, our government safe from corruption, and our streets free from gang violence.

Hmph. I knew the baby seal analogy was a bad sign. The seal hunt ended yesterday, and it didn't go well for the hunters.
