I just followed your explanation as to why people bought in. (Paraphrasing follows): You said "fear". I said "fear of what". You said "fear of not having tomorrow what you have today"., and I say "what do they want tomorrow that they have today" and you say "Nothing. That's it. Game's up."
I'm not starting over with you, my dear genius, but you said they wanted something, and now you are saying they don't. What's the point?

I wasn't asking what you pretend to think, my rebellious friend. The question was why every society in existence independently bought in when it was offered.

Religion itself? That's another question. I'm not asking why someone needs religion. I'm asking why people uniformly and independently bought into even the concept of the Mountain and the Messenger.
In any case, you just said Nothing. That's it. Game's up. If true, why do we need an escape valve from that?
He(and maaaaa, he's starting it with the ventriloquist act again)llo

RT, I think that you just earned a toaster.
Although that somehow seems inadequate and not really reflective of the conversion at hand. Perhaps a copy of "Fetish Diva VII" on DVD.

I'd be worried but for the fact that I own this place. Although I should probably increase the Skittles and Mountain Dew budget for the IT people. Again.

The site actually has a lot of information on porn prosecution, maknig money off of porn, and research that went into making the docu. I thought it was well done when it aired three years ago. This is a related NYT article that came out around the time that the docu aired. Your net-nanny shouldn't be too concerned with it.
ETA: NYT article came out before the Bush administration, Frontline documentary came out in an Ashcroft world.

I'm still looking for that lesbian porn for my book report on the FB.

Poor Hank. Up 78-4, he forgot the Unforgiving PB Rule: It's all fun and games until they take away our porn.
Unfortunately, Hank (like many Bush supporters) labored under the Rovian construct that social conservatives in the party were a nuisance, like terrorism, and contented himself in the illusion that Bush was simply tossing the God Squad token Cabinet appointments. Like DOJ.
From this critical moment of discovery about the strong social conservatism of today's GOP, Hank lost his confidence in the positions of Republicanism, and started his inexorable slide to ultimately lose his best-of-157 series.
(The experience of losing 74 straight was likely a painful one, especially so once he ran out of Gilligan episodes with which to respond to the onslaught.)
Hank was last seen from checked into a Howard Johnson's near Times Square, having accumulated a PPV bill of approximately $125,000.

It varies by state and chain, but certainly it has gotten "harder" over the bush term. RT's cite wasn't actually proof they're going after that. I hope still, and Sebastian's vote changing? Hardly.

You have to appreciate the Republicans' balls. It takes a lot of chutzpah to bring out Cheney to criticize a duck hunting trip.

"Marriott ignores parents whose children are exposed to porn
Anne Marie Miele and her husband thought they had found a suitable pay-per-view movie for their children one night while staying at a Marriott hotel. Instead, about an hour into the film, they got a shocking switch from a family movie into a hardcore porn film."

The first 45 minutes of "Taboo 2" are a bit boring.

I'll stand down on this. You clearly have done more research than I have.

Let me explain it better: As Catholics we have it too easy- of course we'll come back.
For years I kept dating SS sister because when I'd leave she'd always say "You can come back anytime- just knock on my window." I had to make the effort of climbing up on the garage and then knocking on the window, but that was it, she'd take over from there.
The Catholic church is similarly easy. A muslim might need to blow up a bus and a Protestant might have to snake handle. All we have to do is apologize.
You know you're dying- the priest is there- all you have to say is "Forgive me father its been 52 years since my last confession. I've never killed or had sex with an animal, but everything else I've done, the common ones lots of times." You say it and there's a chance for heaven- 1 in 10? 1 in 100? Whatever, you're ass will take the 5 minutes and come back to the Church.
See you in heaven bub! I'll be the one wanting to see Gilligan reruns in the common room.

We know why you want all of this stuff. But why you want all of this stuff was not the question. The question is why anybody believed, in multiple independent societies, at essentially parallel parts of the societal evolution, that the Mountain had just spoken to the premodern equivalent of the Village Slacker and annointed him Messenger.
No offense, but its probably not because they wanted to get laid. Then again, it could be because they wanted to Live to be 200. Interesting that you threw that into the mix with the others.

My good man, if he could fuck Heidi Klum, what man wouldn't want to live to be 200? Even after she got old and decrepit and I couldn't get it up any more, I'd still want a number of years to carry around the picture and tell people I used to fuck her.
