Men die earlier because, by that time, they want to.

(I note that TW said nothing bad specifically about his bride, and only complained of monotony. If anything, he simply praises men as people of action. "While she diddled around bored, he did something about it and died." It's part of that male leadership role.)

I loves it when Deucey drops the apron-schtick and swings a big stick.

Its Must-See entertainment.

Speaking of Overrated TV Shows...

NBC is finally mercy-killing "Frasier":

http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/TV/0...eut/index.html

Good thing too. Else they'd've had to mercy-kill the viewers.

Proving my point that the show is overrated, here's a quote from the above article:

"We want it to go out classy."

Ok, I have to admit that "Not_Discerning" amused me.

While your "context" criticism might have some merit, I have to say that I like seeing old Honeymooners episodes. And Red, and Unlce Miltie, and Ernie Kovacs, for that matter. And I acknowledge that Desilu Studios was a fine thing (didn't they bring us the Dick Van Dyke show?), and the show was influential -- absolutely.

Notwithstanding all this, I get annoyed by watching the show. And I get annoyed when people *today* (well, not May 5, 2003, but you know what I mean) tell me how funny they think I Love Lucy is, or how much they love seeing it on Nick at Nite.

And I really think it was my Led Zeppelin/Stairway remarks that incurred your wrath. :bow2:

In Frasier's defense, it USED to be a good show. I agree that it currently sucks though.

I covered this at the sign off at the bottom of my poll already.

But let's add another category:

Sexual prowess: Yours (or so I hear).

I'm not sure what to make of this, deuce. Are you agreeing with my stated position and simply taking the female side of the coin, or is just that the vast distance between us prevents you from seeing the prominent bulge my tongue was making in my cheek?

Over-rated-clap-clap-clapclapclap

1. Food: (tie) Steak and coffee. I think coffee is foul and unhealthy. As for steak, give me ribs or a good burger instead. I eat steak all the time, but think it's overrated, that's all.

2. Actor: For all the Affleck voters, I don't think anyone seriously considers him a master thespian. That's like picking Keanu. How about Russell Crowe. Sure, sometimes he's great. But have you seen him skate in Mystery, Alaska?

3. Band: Same goes for people who said Creed. Might as well say Live or Matchbox 20. Nobody thinks they're talented. As far as overrated goes, I'll vote for Indigo Girls. Right now I think Queens of the Stone Age might be a bit overrated.

5. Occupation: Screenwriter (the money certainly isn't overrated though, if you're successful). Journalist is a close runner up.

6. Movie: A Beautiful Mind. If you're mentally ill, just try a little harder and you'll be fine.

7. Song: So so so many. How about Heartbreak Hotel. There's not even a bridge, but I guess it has some good lyrics. My vote goes to Piano Man.

8. TV Show: Six Feet Under by a mile. It's gotten soooo soap-ish. Plus, when my sister-in-law interviewed there for a writer job, she was told she "just wasn't weird enough." How pretentious.

9. Clothes: Silk boxers. Fine for in bed, not for out and about.

10. Sexual Position: 69. Let's take turns and really enjoy it, shall we?

Lead who?

Actually, it was the Beatles comments.:soapbox:

Overall, it's a theme that I've seen here quite a few times that gets my goat. (OK, I don't really have a goat, but if I did, oh, boy, . . . ) We can't completely judge "classics" by our reaction to them today. If the entire merit of a work is judged by whether we start humming along now, with our current tastes and trends and popularity contests, then we denigrate a lot of great accomplishments that were truly meaningful in the development up to where we are today, not to mention disparaging any art that isn't current top-40.

7. Song?
8. TV Show (Reality or otherwise)?
9. Article of clothing?
10. Sexual position or activity?
1. Food? Lobster. Even with the butter, it just doesn't taste good, and it's chewy and messy and expensive. Blech.
2. Actor? Kevin Costner. Huh? His voice is annoying. He always sounds like he's whining.
3. Band or Singer? The latest Boy Band (little robots) or Norah Jones (never heard of her before the Grammy's, listened afterwards and don't get what all the fuss or awards were about). I have to add Santana to the list. I actually slept at one of his concerts (without the aid of mind altering substances) I was so bored.
4. Law firm? All of them.
5. Occupation? BIGLAW Lawyer. Hands down.
6. Movie? Anything with Kevin Costner.
7. Song? Tie between Celine's Titanic song,
8. TV Show (Reality or otherwise)? Friends. It's not funny, just sad.
9. Article of clothing? For men - the necktie. Just love those old school retired guys who have to wear one everyday, but a too cheap to buy new shirts, so they walk around all day with red puffy necks. I keep waiting for one of them to explode. For women - shoes with ridiculously high heels. Ouch!
10. Sexual position or activity? The alternate entry point. It's designed to push things out!
