I agree that it does not present "powerful" women -- I never said it did -- in fact, part of its appeal was exactly that -- each one of them was flawed, just like IRL. They all made mistakes, tried different things, and were all "looking for love" (which is cliched, but, in my experience, not so far off what many women are looking for -- and men too, but that's not what this show was about.)

It makes women look like utter unlikable idiots.
Well, we just disagree. I liked them. I didn't think they were idiots. I thought their conversations were pretty true-to-life in terms of their subject matter and level of candor (cf. what I'm about to say below), except they were funnier than most people are IRL.

And the show - on the whole - just pissed me off. On their salaries, how the fuck did they get to live where they did. Carrie wouldnt be able to afford to pay that rent, let alone eat.
That is true. But again, SO?!?!? Of course Carrie couldn't afford her wardrobe and shoe collection. Duh! Since when does a television show have to be accurate down to the last detail? And who has so much time to hang around and go shopping, go out every night, find new guys every week, and hang out with their friends non-stop? Of course those aspects were unreal, but - shit (hi Atticus!) - it's a tv show. The fantastical element does not detract from its merits.

I understand why you're angry. But it's not like I hid anything from you. I'm "Big Cock Sock", not "Stay Around After And Cuddle Sock."

What did you expect?

Because certain people - and New York magazine - constantly applaud the show as the barometer of what is "hip" and openly discuss the show as being an accurate potrayal of life in NY.

I knew that was going to be unclear. I tried to fix it by explaining that I just skip past it, rather than go on and on about how lame it is, and that only retarded idiots would ever listen to such drivel, etc.... (see, I don't do that -- c.f., the people who hate SATC who simply cannot abide anyone who enjoys it).

And the song example was just the only remotely analagous thing I could think of. I don't really care that much about it -- unlike those who are enraged by the very thought that someone might find SATC appealing.

Reality TV Meets Death Pool

One of the civilians killed in Iraq earlier this week was Scott Helverston, the Navy Seal who proved himself to be such an asshole on that USA Network show - Combat Missions hosted by Survivor Rudy Boesch where special forces members competed against each other in combat skills.

You got the chicken before the egg there. The really annoying thing about the show was that it CREATED what was cool for a time. People started acting in subtle ways like the characters on the show. That's where it turned my stomach. When you start acting like a fantasy character, you're fucked.

Exactly. And that's a shame. The top shelf drinks got there based on their cool bottles and high prices. This isn't true for any other spirit.
A shame? You idiot, that should be encouraged. Think of how much cash you'll save.

That's a problem with those people, not with the show. It's not as if there's any television show populated with characters one should emulate in real life. Unfortunately I didn't learn that until after I went through my phase of emulating Blanche from the Golden Girls, but I know it now.

I know a guy who still thinks he's Gny. Sgt. Hartman from Full Metal Jacket.

He's actually pretty funny.

"Who said that? Who the fuck said that? Who's the slimy little communist shit, tinkle-toed cocksucker down here who just signed his own death warrant? Nobody, huh? The fairy fucking godmother said it. Out-fucking-standing. I will PT you all until you fucking die. I'll PT you until your assholes are sucking buttermilk."

It's REALLY funny in Spanish.

I did exempt the "undesireables" from my earlier statement (remember? I am not a mon-stah?), but forgot to include long-term or otherwise committed relationships (sorry -- you're right.)
