Regardless, doctors can do nothing for rib injuries, even if a rib is broken. Most doctors/receptionists will tell you this when you attempt to make an appointment re: a rib injury.
Pain medication and rest. If you are, indeed, injured.
|
No pain on sneezing or deep breathing. I think it's just strain. My uncle broke his rib sliding down one of those cement slides at a water park. He got a head of steam going down, went over a bump, went airborne, and then landed hard on his back and broke 3 ribs.
How do I remember with such picture-perfect accuracy? Why, because we caught it on video tape! I should have sent it to America's Funniest Videos, or whatever that show is called, as the winners always seem to be videos of people experiencing severe bodily injury.

I know one person who has had a HDD failure, and he ran with his ipod regularly. Also, I've seem a few posters on Appleinsider.com who had had similar failures.

Same with toes. Medicine is in the fucking twelfth century when it comes to dealing with bones I've actually broken. They don't even tape the toe, usually, since it's important for the healing that it flop around and heal right.

Go look at a Rio Nitrus. I killed an Ipod quickly. The Nitrus seems tougher.

And speaking of exercise, I did a session with my trainer (OK, spit it out -- just make fun of me and get it over with...) on Thursday, and my stomach STILL hurts from all the sit-ups and other stomach stuff I did. It especially hurts right between my ribs where the two sets start to separate (in the middle of my chest) and make space for internal organs. What is that called? Upper abs? (I know that's not the technical name, but my anatomy reference library is on loan at the moment.)
WTF? Why would they still hurt four days later?

I got this email today (Bally's won't release my email address):
When beginning a resistance program, it is not unusual for
muscles to become stiff or sore within 24 to 48 hours after
exercising. This soreness is called Delayed Onset Muscle
Soreness or D.O.M.S. D.O.M.S. is believed to be the result of
tiny tears in the muscle or connective tissue. When your body is
adjusting to a new activity, and your muscles are working in ways
they are not used to, some degree of D.O.M.S. is to be expected.
Excessive stiffness, soreness and pain warrants rest. Your body
needs rest to repair tissue, grow and get stronger.

Since ibuprofen is my general purpose painkiller, I think I remember that I was really in pain until I took a couple of acetaminophen, and then it wasn't too bad until it went away entirely.
|
Other way around. Ibuprofen is an antiinflamatory (as are aspirine and naproxin, both of which are related chemically). Acetaminophen is merely a pain reliever/fever reducer. Good news is you can take full doses of both at once (but not ibuprofen with aspirin or naproxin).
(I have almost certainly butchered the spelling of one or more of the drugs above, but deal with it.)

Rib injuries fucking hurt. And there's basically nothing you can do about it. I took a shot in the ribs 3 weeks ago playing football, and it STILL hurts.

Getting punched by your girlfriend after beating her in Madden 2004 doesn't count.

I take back my list, especially since I have all three things Anne Elk wants, and therefore have much for which I am grateful.
Is that corny enough for you?
(Edited to add I would still like Santa to pay my house painter's bill.)
