The rest of the guys here should pay attention to BRC's post. This being 2004, those things are no longer the "absolutes" they were in 1904, but they make a woman feel special/treasured. Unless you are surrounded by women clamoring to jump your bones, this is a good thing.

*ETA, except Leagl and GWNC, now that I've read their posts.
**Or however Sebby's line goes.

I'm glad to hear you'll put the toilet seat up for me.
In your house, if it was up when I got in there, sure. In my house, no, and I expect you to put it back down too, but it isn't the end of the world if you don't.

Never have understood why some women get angry when men don't put the seat down. Just look before you sit.

They just make me feel silly, frankly. If a man gets out of a car and expects me to remain in it while he comes around and opens it for me, I feel either (a) like I should tip him, or (b) like he's pretending to be James Bond, neither of which makes me feel particularly comfortable.

Just do what is practical.

Sometimes it's late, it's dark and you just don't want to flick that light on. And then the *cold* reality of the situation hits you and you're too late.

Yes, but the last time I lived with a man it was my father, and my sister and I had our own bathroom.

I just can't relate.

What is this slop? Post something coherent. I can't even tell if I'm being misquoted.

Do not order for the woman in a restaurant. Its like wearing a sharkskin double breasted suit.

Oh, god, he did that fire and brimstone Passion-esque roiling sky in front of the whitehouse thing the other night and I almost peed I was laughing so hard. He is way hot.

Rob Cordrey lives in our neighborhood, incidentally. The Mr. says he is a really nice guy, and was very cool about the Mr. going all star-struck and babbling at him.

Bryn Terfel is crushable, definitely. In a teddy-bear way. He just seems like a really, really nice guy, who is low maintenance, fun for guys to hang out with, too, and pretty cute in a rolly-polly sort of way (be honest, Fugee, that pic hides about 75 pounds). Totally doable, but not a sex symbol by any stretch of the imagination.

Wrong. I have no friggen' idea what makes you tick. I'd be willing to bet that I know more about what makes a woman happy when it comes to a guy they want to date than you.

Flowers and jewelry are nice gestures. Giving them after birth doesn't indicate that you know how a woman ticks. It only shows that you know how to follow orders.

Holding open doors and walking a woman to her seat, standing up when she leaves the table, etc. are outdated, idiotic traditions that 98% of the cool women out there don't give a shit about. Being considerate comes in all kinds of forms, Fugee. What you keep pointing to and jumping up and down about is shorthand for being considerate and polite. Not doing the things listed in that stupid list doesn't make one inconsiderate.

You're not too bright when it comes to this. And I'll bet you hundred dollar bills to donuts that almost any woman you know would rather be with someone who doesn't care much about these rules and fits other (sensible) criteria well, than the made-up, romance-novel, fabio loser you have a picture of in your screwed up head.

Mike Damone would beg to differ. It's an integral part of his Five Point Plan:

First of all Rat, you never let on how much you like a girl. "Oh, Debbie. Hi."

Two, you always call the shots. "Kiss me. You won't regret it."

Now three, act like wherever you are, that's the place to be. "Isn't this great?"

Four, when ordering food, you find out what she wants, then order for the both of you. It's a classy move. "Now, the lady will have the linguini and white clam sauce, and a Coke with no ice."

And five, now this is the most important, Rat. When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on side one of Led Zeppelin IV.

I've never gotten angry about it, but all the guys I've been with have been pretty decent in that regard I guess. The fear of accidently falling in during a middle of the night pee is the only thing that has gotten to me. I'm pretty big on completely closing the toilet seat cover when you are finished in the bathroom anyway because it just looks better that way.
