Good thing I'll never have to climb Everest with him.

Did I ever tell u I worked with a partner who entered in a charity bike race and was hit by a truck and died instantly?
He was in his late 50's or 60's and a big time litigator at the very first firm I worked at in the city. He completed the IronMan Triathalon several times.

Disregarding the guy who died (who did not die of heat-related issues, but rather a pre-existing heart condition), she is right, especially if you aren't an experienced runner or if it was your first marathon. In those instances, skipping the race would probably be prudent given the heat/humidity. The Chicago Marathon is amateur hour -- many of these people signed up without first completing any other running races. Many are underprepared for the marathon in normal weather conditions. I would never run it if they didn't guarantee me a start in the competitive corral.

I have actually already made every decision for every scenario I will ever face. From here on out, I'm on auto-pilot. It takes some of the excitement out of things, but in other ways, it is a great relief.

I was going to add a post-script to my post in which I state that I had already decided not to respond to Hank's reply in which he states that the auto-pilot comment explains my current posting style. But I had not so decided.

Don't get me started on Into the Wild. I haven't seen the movie, but if Penn romanticized this kid's journey w/out including the huge, arrogant and reckless mistakes he made, then it's going to make me angry.
|
Your Darwinian angst is misplaced. The guy died alone in a bus. He paid for his mistakes.
And its Sean Penn, dude. Ya think maybe - just maybe - he might be grinding an ax in the movie and chucking facts to the wind to do so?

I wasn't really paying attention -- what's all this stuff about unprepared people dying on Everest because of unusual heat and humidity?

I also dislike that movie, and people keep telling it's misunderstood.
I agree. By them.

I know you don't really mean that. You were pre-determined to post it due to 4 billion years of past and present events. It's not your fault.
