I may be totally misunderstanding how the US stuff works for crossing the Canadian border; I thought they were temporarily letting you over if you could show you had applied for a US passport.

I got my green card in 2004. After receiving a green card, one has to wait 5 years to apply for citizenship. I'll likely be a citizen in 2009.

can you fly to buffalo and take a bus, or something? (you can still cross anywhere but airports with birth certificate, I think)

My green card is dependent on my passport. I can't get back into the US without my passport. Although that is very helpful! I was almost thinking I could use your plan until I remembered about the stupid green card issue.
