I'm on the Platform Committee of the political correctness movement, and I didn't even know we took a position on this. Even still, I'm gratified we got such great market penetration on that one.

that is one life approach, I guess. but if you employ that one, why are you surprised that other posters lack respect for you? why keep crying censorship? shouldn't you have earned our respect before expecting it from us?
if you really operate that way and your statement isn't just internet-enabled bravada, I pity you. seems it would make client-development as well as friendship development more difficult.

Its not censorship anyway. perhaps Leagl was assuming that not me wasn't posting intending to actually hurt someone, and was giving a fYI.
I mean all the flames are really about nonsense that doesn't hurt in real life; we like to insult people, when appropriate, but about meaningless things.
Once I was droning on about how schools wrongly stick kids on ritalin (on Mom & Pa). Then someone mentionrd their kids was on it- I shut up . I didn't want to be implying this guy was suckered into putiing his kids on drugs. Whether it would have bothered him or not wasn't the point, I didn't want to do it.
Maybe leagl thought not me would like to know a wf poster was married to a black guy- it is something that might cause a hypothetical poster to change direction, drop the whole inner issues rant, and maybe go do a polygamy post. Whether evenodds was/could be hurt isn't really the point. The point is, not me might have choosen to switch based upon the info, it is not censorship.

Re: your point on reversing absolut and stoli -- it's entirely possible that those people dont' care whether they get absolut or stoli, they just don't want Wolfschmitt crap, and it's not really workable to just say "not crap" so they have to pick a non-crap name to use.
or maybe that's just me.

Further proof that DC is in the midwest

Speaking of which, I have anectodal evidence (the plural form of anectode -- Hi Atticus!!) of the 1000 monkeys on typewriters churning out Shakespeare (or whatever that phrase is).
This morning, I was washing my face and the phone was ringing, and I shouted "Is anyone going to answer the phone?!" and as I heard no response, had to go to the phone with my soapy face. Anyway, it was the NYPD. They asked if someone had called. I said no, but then remembered that my baby had been playing with the phone -- and thought maybe he dialed 911 by happenstance. So I explained that, and the lady on the phone said "OK, fine, please explain that to the officers who will be there in a moment."
Doorbell rings, my son comes to my room asking if I've called the police. So I rinse my face and have to put some underwear on (and a robe), and go to the door to explain what happened. The officers were very nice and we all kind of chuckled.
So the reason I relate this to the 1000 monkeys? Several years ago, my older son did the same thing (luckily, this was upstate, so there's hope that we're not down for having this happen twice!). State trooper came and everything, and asked to look around, even though I told him everything was all right (good practice, probably.)
So when I saw the baby playing with the phone this morning, I thought, "Eh -- I'm not going to worry about it. What are the chances that could happen again?" Apparently, the answer to that question is 100%.
Good times, good times.

I was going to post something about being glad that my dad, who was having a heart attack the morning of your post, did not live in your city, where the emergency operators were tied up dealing with trying to get a response from the baby misdial. But then I remembered you live in NYC, and enh, there are lots of people there, many have truly obnoxious accents, so who cares if someone died waiting.
My dad didn't really have a heart attack, anyway. Nor was anyone I know in need of emergency services anywhere at all on Friday morning (that I know of).

We should stop pussing out on our offensive jokes until after leagl has given the newbies the E/O disclosure. On slashdot, this post would have been "My dad died in Manhattan of a heart attack this morning, you insensitive clod!" We're lawyers and should not allow ourselves to be outclassed in the dickishness department by pimply Unix gaywads.

I would really have to add "because 911 was all gummed up with bullshit calls like the one your kid made!" to get through to some people around here (naming no names). Otherwise it might be seen as a non sequitor.
