And how. Retired and put out to stud at 29? Where do I sign up?

A guy hit what would have been a game winner, but died at the warning track.
Have the Twins been accused of this before? Balt, could this actually influence the ball?
I would think if they had such a power they'd save it for something more important than a Tigers/Twins in June.

Bill Veeck had an adjustable fence in Milwaukee that he would raise and lower b/w innings.

Will you be wearing this regularly or backwards during your sessions?

There were rumors about this back in 1987 when Minnesota won the World Series.

They did tests to see if changing the airflow could affect ball paths. It did, very slightly, but measurably. And the groundskeeper admitted that he did make those adjustments.

So what the hell happened? And Birdstone, at 36 to 1? I need a cocktail, just thinking about it...

I was there, and no horse race with 10 entrants all of decent quality is ever an 83% guarantee. It involves animals for the fucking baby jesus' sake and at a distance none of them have ever run before. The odds were bet down because everyone wanted to hold a winning ticket. That said, I think Elliott let him take the lead too early.
As for Birdsong, the morning line was only 15-1, meaning the oddsmaker recognized he had a chance, and the guy standing next to us picked him, as he told us loudly both before and after the race. The reason - he was the only other horse in the race ever to have won a Grade I stakes.

You might also want to catch the "Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!" video here. {Sound.}
ETA: Sorry, guys; looking for a link that works. Will edit when same is found.
ETFA: Okay, the link has been replaced, but I make no promises that this site has adequate bandwidth. Link goes directly to MPEG video; it's slow to load.

So, what did people think about the season finale?
I liked it (B+), but as with most other seasons, the best episode of the season was the penultimate.

Finally watched the first two shows of season one, and see that I'm going to have fun catching up to all of you with the help of the good people at Netflix.* Until them, TIA for using spoiler space.
* A company which rents two product lines: DVDs, and coasters.

With the help of Netflix I hope to be caught up on 24 by the time the season begins after the World Series. I'm pissed off as hell that I didn't think of Netflix, and not only because it will help kill Blockbuster, the taker of my hard earned cash in the form of "late fees."

Spoiler- for 2 weeks only- no spoilers going back to 2001, sorry
I wasn't sure if Philly was indicted, because he just got out- if not he's gtg. Also, not sure if Little Carmine was, but I didn't think so. So if Little Carmine wasn't indicted, he takes over, right. Guess what? he liked Tony B.

How can Little Carmine take over after punking out the way he did? As I understand it, Tony S has a shot at consolidating now. Not sure how likely that is, but I suppose it's worth a shot. I LOVED the scene with Sil and Tony in the Bing. Great stuff.

More spoiler:
It did dawn on me that Tony S. probably feels like shit as he didn't have to do what he did to Diet Tony. I was unhappy about that, as I really liked the Diet Tony character. Tony really had painted himself into a corner, and I suppose if it had to be done, and he figured out the best way to get out of it.
But it wasn't clear whether Leotardo was going to the BigHouse or not.

Speaking of odd videos, anyone else see the Peanuts version of Hey Ya? It's classic.
Links are hard to come by since United Features did a very good job of cracking down on the perps for trademark infringement. But if you google and drill down a few pages you may be able to find a live one.

Kind of makes me sad to watch that one. I was equally bummed out yesterday at the Crossroads Guitar Festival when his brother Jimmie played Texas Flood because his little brother couldn't be there. Very sad.
