I hate change in all its forms, and I consider avatar suggestions only from Not Bob. In the queue for 2005 is Carlton Banks from "Fresh Prince." I would say "thanks for playing" but that phrase makes me TUIMMALB. I'm talking Night Court in its fifth season lame.

Can you please explain to me why shipping wine to (pick a state) is so bad? I mean if you have a wine industry that you feel would be threatened by the mass shipping of wine, I understand. But I just don't see the reasoning behind the randomness of it.

Edited to add, OK, Utah I understand. They've just got bizarre views and laws regarding alcohol, but Florida? Oklahoma? South Dakota but not North Dakota?

A. Protect the kidlets.

B. Protect the taxers.

C. Protect the morality.

(Pick one, or several. Generally, states that were slow to allow dancing are death on UPS'ed wine.)

You have a wine distribution industry, sometimes run by the state, that would be threatened. Those middleman markups are just too tasty.

And never forget the power of the temperence lobby.

4) the only thing gayer than seeing Leo Dicaprio in WeHo (west hollywood for you not in the know) is that pic of Leo Dicap.

5) I saw the White Stripes on an SNL rerun and I think its safe to say that they suck , Can you stop the fawning now?
You can rag on me all you want, missy, but when you start ripping the White Stripes, then you lose all credibility.

And yes, I can read the crap on the walls at Barney's Beanery as well as you can.

Finally, I suspect a lot more people know who Rachel Bilson is than will ever know who any of us are. She's one of the breakout stars from The O.C. and now, apparently, a favorite of the Stuff/Maxim/FHM set.

This is the last time I'll reply to one of your posts, however, until you sit down and listen to a live version of "The Hardest Button to Button."

And yet I, personally, am prevented from shipping wine as a Holiday present to an adult for what reason? I mean really, 1 freakin bottle is not going to hurt anyone's taxes, morality, kids.
What good is having a friend in wine country (American) if you can't take advantage of it? These distributors can possibly sell as many brands as there are available, so doesn't that necessarily harm the smaller brands?

Because people who would never think to go to the corner packy and buy alcohol will suddenly become addicted to internet booze, thereby turning noble soda-drinking teetotalers into raging wine-crazed lushes.

What Burger said. And because the in-state distributors have been slow to set up internet sales, because they don't have to face competition from out-of-state.

If you live in California, and as I recall you do, you don't have this problem, per the nifty map I previously posted a link to.

Because licensed alcohol distributors in your state have a vested interest in their markup, and they are better at advocating for their interest than the consumers who would benefit from buying wine direct without the distributors' markup.

It is bullshit protectionism, but benefitting local wine growers less than local distributors.

There are a couple libertarian groups challenging the laws on fed constitutional grounds (interstate). Protectionist states' argument contra appears basically to be "the prohibition amendment trumped the interstate commerce clause, coming later in time, and its repeal doesn't mean that alcohol isn't still constitutionally different from other products in interstate commerce." There is also a feeble "kids might buy it" side argument that holds no water vs. the constitutional issue, given that the drinking age is the same in every state so there is no differing "local laws/standards" to be protected.

This is one of the least valid bases I can imagine for saying that a band sucks. Which is evidenced, in part, by the fact that the White Stripes do not suck.

Well I, personally, don't have a problem since most of my friends live in reciprocal states and even if they didn't they'd get it anyway, I'd just have to be more "creative" about it.

It's just that I was trying to rationalize the reason and just couldn't. Because the amount of wine that a single individual person could ship, and add the cost of UPS or FedEx, is just cost prohibitive anyway, and the distributors wouldn't be harmed - much. I just think it's stupid that's all.

The White Stripes performance on SNL reviewed by paigowprincess (who has never heard their music outside of this performance)

If you enjoy watching a Robert Smith wannabe gettng all goth on grunge style music, then this is your band. Its the eighties meets the nineties. I enjoyed the nineties aspect (heavy drums) but that singer has got to go.

Download it for me and email and I will listen as best I can. I warn you , though, that I am only now coming out of the closet to admit that I really really like Kid Rock and may buy one of his albums. Not only that, I can see where he is actually attractive (without hat , glasses and shirt). Now can someone recommend the definitive Kid Rock album to own?

I might almost understand the reasoning behind the prohibition on internet sales, but hell you can buy the chemicals to make crank and the recipe on the internet.

If I go to a winery and buy wine and ask them to ship to an adult in particular states, I am prevented from doing so - even 1 lousy bottle for Christmas. It's ridiculous.
