In the context of this morning's discussion, this sounds . . . compensatory.

Wow. So that whole discussion of being a "porn buddy" on the first episode of Coupling was realistic? Huh.

And apropos of nothing, I wanted to like Coupling -- I, uh, admire Rena Sofer -- yet was Not Amused. Did it get any better?

I'm not sure it was realistic, but its also part of a Curb Your Enthusiam, althought not prearranged.

My housemate bought it. So, the place I live has a 53-inch TV, not me. Usually, he watches the TV and I practice knocking over 1.75 liter bottles of booze...

No, it got worse. But it's a shame, as Rena Sofer is so ridiculously gorgeous that I found myself Not changing the channel because I couldn't stop looking at her.

British Coupling is also not very funny though. I only watched part of the first episode of US Coupling, so I will reserve comment.

However I will not reserve comment on The Joe Schmo Show finale...

There sure was a lot of wasted time in that 2 hours (thank you Tivo!), but I did find his reaction to the whole thing interesting. I liked that he called them to the carpet a little bit on their repeated protestations that they did the whole show FOR him. Really they couldn't have picked a better sport for the whole thing, but you could tell he still had some issues to work through with respect to the whole thing being a lie. At least they gave him some cool stuff for his troubles...

Right. But offer Halle $500k and before she accepts or turns it down, she can create the buzz that her tits are worth $500k. And I told you how she could make it public and a positive (for her) even if she turned it down. The other examples I just used illustrated that the producers can't hope to completely control everything that goes on with a movie.

It's like arguing with SD. Julia Roberts refuses to take off her top. She is not seen as a prude. Are you suggesting that if we knew that she turned down extra money to show her tits that we would all then think she was a prude and boycott her movies? Because that's what it sounds like and it makes little to no sense.

Jesus Christ. Her willingness to take off her top for a part that wasn't paying her an extra $500k (or maybe not even that much for the whole role), would show that she has dived into a role where she does things that are against her nature. Or even her image. That's part of why she got such great reviews. Because it was a character unlike the ones she usually plays. Doing nudity when she never does nudity for that part, would have enhanced the Oscar buzz (that we both agree is already there since she won the Oscar). It's the same Hollywood bullshit as when an actor is praised for their bravery for appearing ugly in a movie.

No. The most intelligent thing has yet to be said. And here it is: Goodbye, sock.

No kid wants to see their parent(s) doing that shit. It is gross.

Its a not a sex tape. Its her naked. Nothing her folks probably haven't seen already at some point.

Too bad. She was *perfect* as the district attorney and romantic rival in Ed -- the writers/directors/whatever on that show really took advantage of that whole smart, sexy, slightly dangerous vibe she has. I was sad to see her go.

Which is another reason that I loved Oz. Male frontal nudity almost guaranteed every episode. Some of those guys were hung.

And her General Hospital body of work was excellent.* And if not, at least we can all agree that she is hot.

*I don't actually know her General Hospital body of work, but I assume it involves an addiction to painkillers, sex with someone else's husband and amnesia. NTTAWWAOT.

This reminds me that one of the great things about a digital camera is that you can take sexy photos without the creepy dude at the CVS knowing what you look like naked. One of the not so great things about a digital camera is that the file names of the photos are so nondescriptinve that one's SO could accidentally include those photos in an email to his parents.

These value judgments of "great" and "not so great" only apply, of course, if you're so [patriarchal, I mean parochial, or do I mean provincial?] as to prefer that the creepy dude at CVS and your SO's parents not see naked photos of you.

And "accidentally" is only true if you don't believe Freud.

But otherwise, I stand by what I say.

It is usually "beaten like a rented mule," though your variant makes (less colorful) sense as well. One beats mules because they are stubborn and won't go. One particularly beats rented mules because they are rented so you don't care about them long term (same would go for riding them hard, of course, the problem being that it is hard to ride mules hard without beating them because of the aforementioned stubbornness).

Thurgreed, the saying has been around as long as people have been trying to get mules to do things, meaning longer than Sports Center has been on the air. Have you people never seen a fucking mule? What is the matter with you? This all seems so obvious it makes my head ache.

One of course beats "red headded step-children" because (i) they are step children, not your children, so you don't care (similar to the rented mule) and (ii) red hair is a long-standing folk-tale shorthand for "illegitimate" or "not your kid." Obviously, this predates proper understanding of recessive genetics.

BR(We need more tired Dan Rathers spouting bizarre Texas non-sequitors on TV if people think this mundane sort of linguistic coloring is hard to comprehend)C
