Not only do they NOT enforce the 1 item plus a carry-on rule (you see people with shopping bags full of crap) but they also don't really really enforce the "preboarding" rule (children under 5 or old people in wheelchairs) - they'll let damn neared anyone with kids or gray hair preboard. Nice flight attendants, easy trip through security (in one case - too easy: the wait was so short I didn't have a chance to empty out my pockets into my briefcase and got sheparded to the side for forgeting to take out my cell phone; still, my own damn fault).

And with the preboarding thing, the contrast is American and United have eliminated it entirely, so everyone can stand there while family of four can get all situated and move their kids around into their seats. Works real, real well. Especially if you're the family. Bastards.

But I 100% agree with you on America West. Where do they get their seats? Overstocks from Pygmy Airlines?

I've had three flights on SW in the past 2 weeks and all I can say is that I'm an elitist fuck (translated for less: an elitist lovemaker), and I vastly prefer the company of the people on the US Airways and Delta shuttles.

Normally, Southwest is fine - as long as you have an "A" ticket. B or a C and you're screwed as far as carry-on or seat selection. Today, I had an "A" but security screwed me on the seat and carry-on.

In some circumstances preboarding is essential. But when a mom and her 12 year old kid want to preboard - fuck that. And when 8 other people want to do that too, fuck that too.

I don't know where America West gets their seats, but they do hire their counter people from Adolf Hitler's school of regimen and manners.
