The biggest concern with naming your child that is that he's likely to learn how to spell his name before you do.

I like Katherine, but I'm sure my liking of that will be excorciated. Exorciated. Whatever. gwinky, it may make you feel better that I'm not sure whether her name was spelled with a K or a C. I apparently met her when I was a tiny tiny infant but she died before I hit 2.

If I were to breed, which I'm not, and I had a daughter, I might name her Amanda after a high school friend. That Amanda was named after a high school friend of her mom's. Plus it's a song, I think, by some hair band. I could be wrong about either the existence of the song or the hair-band-i-ness of the group. Came out in the mid or late 80s, I think, if it indeed exists.

I'm gonna take you by surprise, and make you realize

Boston, I think?

And don't forget "Oh, Mandy, you came and you gave without taking, and I sent you away. Oh, Mandy, when you kissed me and stopped me from shaking ..."

I love the name Katherine, by the way. With a C is good, too. I'm also fond of Gertrude, which to others may sound frumpy, but belongs to a very beautiful Swedish/German cousin so I associate it with her.

Oh, and I was re-reading mysteries of Pittsburgh last night; you remind me of Phlox in so many ways.

Kisses.
Surely you jest. You are naming your kid Evan Holden Tomato Basil Outofvannuys?

Why, Bilmore, why?

I love hearing my name in songs. And there are quite a few songs that fall into that category.

But I think I'd feel differently if any of the songs were by Boston.

Is that on the approved Yale reading list?

I associate the name with a pussycat.

Don't expect any little Bernice or Emmett Slaves anytime soon.

My great grandparents names (can't remember one set) aren't any better - Ruth, Lessie & Lucille; Walter, Sidney and Alexander. Alexander isn't so bad, but I'd probably use the celtic form, Alisdair, and get my kid beaten up a lot.

Now, the Mr. had one great grandmother named Henrietta. I always think of that name fondly, because of the hippo on TV.

Wow, I thought I was the only idiot who got up early for that one.
I don't know what time it was on in your neck of the woods, but in my area, it was ungodly early.

I actually won the (one of largest cities in the south) spelling bees in both first and third grade. I just am not big on editing.

My name only comes up in spanish songs.

Oh, and RP, the Meta that I went to college with was an exceptionally cool person. I think she's independent film now. I associate the name with good things.
