I think that there is a difference between one being shocked that such a thing a swinging exists, and one being shocked that a someone one knows socially wants to play Ted and Bob and Carol and Alice with one.

All across America, people are saying "Bob and Ted and . . .who?"

I know two different couples who were propositioned.
My sister and her (now ex) husband were invted to participate in such an event. They lived in northern NJ.
A good friend and her husband (in Boston) were propositioned, and apparently witnessed the beginnings of such an event. They were at a party where things were getting a bit too weird for their taste so they left before getting any confirming evidence.

I have no first hand knowledge of what goes on in the surburbs with the married set but my sister who lives in the suburbs of a southern city has been propositioned for couples fun by both a soccer league dad and a PTA mom. She and the hubby declined both offers. Or so she claims. I don't know if this bolsters the case for banal but its my sole experience with the subject.

Hmm. My sister and my brother were independently propositioned at the same party by the same guy. Neither one of them accepted the proposition, and neither knew that the other had been approached until they compared notes later. This happened inside the Loop in Houston, very much not the suburbs.

This happened to me and my wife once. Kind of weird, since we were both wearing wedding rings, although we were hanging out in different parts of the party and the person knew neither of us. Later I became good friends with the guy. Not in Houston, but also not in the 'burbs.
