You both have freakishly large eyes, like aliens. I actually thought you were the same person -- had to scroll back and note that str8 has different colored eyes and hair.

I always thought the two were interchangeable.

Having no idea about the coffin/casket distiction, and assuming someone else will know, I give a semi-related anecdote instead.
One of my sisters and I played a game of "how many ways can you say something is dead" one time on a 1000 mile road trip from New Mexico to Texas. Every time we passed road kill one of us had to find a unique way of describing the passing. "That opossum kicked the bucket." "That coyote is knocking at St. Peter's gate." "That I'm not sure what it was is swimming with the fishes." etc.
I think we came up with somewhere around 120 ways of saying something has died.

Before I started coming here, I subscribed to a couple of sites written by people who (also) thought they were funny. One was a collaborative top 10 list in which the punchlines were written by amateur contributors, a la the Style Invitational. Funniest one was Julia Child's Euphemisms for Death. I won't bore you with the runners up, but the winner was "Slowly cooling to room temperature."

Speaking of Reality TV
Weren't we? Anyone else catch FLoM last night? Looks like they are seriously condensing this one down, possibly in light of the fact that its ratings dropped so much during the second season last year. Anyway, kind of funny premise having the guy know how much the checks are for and that if he can get the woman to choose him, he gets the money.
[SPOILER SPACE]
So I can't believet hat he kept stupid Rachel and her $1 check just because he got some lip action with her last night. How nice of the producers to give us the person to dislike right in the first episode. I expected it to be her roommate, Andrea, but that angle must develop later (I assume once Rachel is off the show). I was surprised that the guy threw 2 of the 3 remaining with $1 million checks off last night. Ali ($1 million) and Andrea ($500k) look like early favorites to win it.

Would it change your tumescence level to hear that the 2004 and 2012 Transits of Venus play a minor part in Thomas Pynchon's next novel? They say it will be his most encyclopedic work to date --- over 256 MB, all ASCII text --- covering everything from sly jokes about the Lewinsky scandal to the coming Age of Robot Overlords. It's slated for a Fall 2240 release.

Speaking of tomes, I just started Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson on the theory that I should read this before I attempt the Baroque Cycle. The 1100 pages are a bit daunting, but I'm giving it a go. I think I was on page 44 when I fell asleep last night.

Ohhh yeeeahhh... I meant to mention this earlier, but this morning, at band camp -- uh, I mean trapeze class, the oddest assortment of people so far were my classmates (I know -- odd people at a trapeze class -- what are the odds?). Three of them had appeared on Reality TV shows. One was on The Apprentice, one was on Average Joe, and one was on something else that I can't remember. Oh, and there was also a jeweler there, and a "tumbler" (whatever that is) too. And me.
