Seems like a pretty bad idea. The last thing I'd want if I were not a Rockefeller, or du Pont, or whatever, is to be thought to be one on the basis of my last name, and have to put up with the charitable solicitations and the expectation that lunch is always on you because, hey, you're a rockefeller.
Overall, it seems divorced women often keep their exes names, like ncs's mom--for the kids, or because the hassle of changing is just too great. Anyone dealt with SSA of late? Minimizing your dealings with them is to be encouraged.

Hmph. I think that 40 is pretty from around the Cadillac Ranch to Albuquerque.

New poll -- have you been Googled/been a Googler?
Ok, to get back from my lunch experience and find this is almost scarey.
Ok, so when I was 17 I was madly infatuated with a really hot and mysterious Mexican American whom I dated briefly, but he went off to college and moved away to Mexico to teach philosophy part time and work in a metalworking shop (odd combo I know)...so anyway, he has a very distint name and I put it into googe a while ago on one of my "i wonder whatever happened to X and I'm sure in teh mood for trying to read documents on the Internet in Spanish" only to find out that he had just moved back to DC and was doing a masters in DC right under my nose...so for months I've been wondering if I'd ever bump into him and it happened today when I was walking down teh street looking like a bum who had slept in my office...I was fidgeting with putting hte "days of the week" on the top of my birth control pack that I had just picked up from the corner CVS, and was thinking to myself at the time, "God, I hope I don't run into anyone I know as I'm doing this on the street" and I felt eyes looking down on me and there he was, about 40 feet away, letting out his most amazing smile as he walked away in a crowd of suits. I never imagined it would happen like that...he was and is the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. 11 years I've pined away over that man.
I am a loser, not that y'all didn't know that already.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

Got my permit. Mom says she may let me drive the minivan on that stretch this weekend. Look out, Manitoba!

I googled my college flame and found a listing for a club lacrosse team he played on. Included were home and work numbers.
Because I already knew he was married, and because I really only wanted to hear his voice, I called the number at work, thinking he'd be gone for the day and I'd hear his voice mail and that would be the end of it.
But, he answered. And I hung up.
20 seconds later my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller ID and sure enough, its him. I pick up the phone and immediately hang up. 20 seconds later it rings again....and I let it roll over to voice mail. Where he was greeted by the message "Hello. You've reached Bn'B. Blah blah blah." He didn't call again.
I have never been so embarrassed.

Make sure to invite me to the wedding. Oh, and serve booze at the reception -- the good stuff, and not with a cash bar.

so do I call?
Every morning, I listen to NPR from the time that I wake up until I get to work. And over time, I've developed a crush on the weather man. I have no idea what he looks like, no idea about anything other than his voice and his ability to help me decide what to wear in the morning.
Anyhow, my local NPR affiliate is wrapping up (thank god) their spring membership drive this afternoon, and the weather guys are supposed to be manning the phones for the home stretch. I'm already a member of the station; I gave generously last fall. So if I call, it's gonna be a redundant membership, though I'm sure they'll be happy to take my money. I'm not guaranteed to talk to him, and one hopes for the good of the station, he'll be too busy to chit-chat anyways. They do ask, when you call, if you have any particular statements you'd like to make, so I could jsut say "RT thinks weather guy is dreamy" and ask them to read it on the air. But, it's not as if I couldn't just send him a fan letter via e-mail, or I could just wait until the fall, cuz it's not as if they deviate too much from whatever fundraising formula they've devised.
So, should I call this afternoon and tell the weather guy that even when it's rainy he brightens my day?

Yes. But less cheesy, more sexy.
And I'll do it for you, if you pull a boldnbrazen and chicken out.

One of the guys on craigslist says that I should say "even when it's not raining, you still make me wet." I'm a little worried about restraining orders if I take that approach.

Go with your gut on that one. Unless you desire never to meet this guy in person and to be made fun of by his co-workers when he relates the story to all of them.
I agree with rp. Be careful of cheesy.
