If I take the money out, it's going into an account of which she is fully aware but doesn't have access to. If she takes it out, no guarantees. She could blow it on a vacation with Bill, or whatever. I'm not so concerned with our long term investments - while they are joint property, they're under my control. And mostly in the form of untouchable retirement accounts. But wiping out our collective cash reserves would make life difficult as I set up a new household and arrange for childcare, etc.

Why do you assume you are getting the kids? In a blue state especially. And I want to ask why you would be married to someone who you think could run through all the cash (partially based on an experience with one (1) ex-gf), but I guess how I can see how you don't trust her or any of the assumptions you might have made about her in the past right now.

I didn't say what I was trying to say very well. Big surprise, I know.

What I meant was that it was likelier than not that there was some kind of emotional connection involved. And that that was more problematic to the marriage than just fucking.
