Doesn't make much sense to me. Rathergate has put the Swiftees on the back burner. Why would Rowe want to replace that story with this one. Doesn't make sense.
I don't know much about authenticating documents. Is it possible that it just doesn't take very long to do?

The only ways I can think of that this makes sense is as
preemption of the whole issue of Bush's service.
If a Republican with nothing-to-lose (i.e., a taxpayer with cancer) steps forward and admits that he planted the documents to prove how biased the media is towards liberals, I think he'd have made a great case and partially preempted the whole issue of Bush's service for this election.
In short, some yokel fabricates the documents and mails them to CBS or a Dem operative. CBS comes out and says the documents are from an "unimpeachable" source. Then, after having everybody and their brother point out that CBS is acting stoopid, CBS brings out an 82 year old lady who remembers typing such memos (30 years ago), but not these ones.
The R yokel admits he fabricated the documents to show bias, and asserts that he has never heard of such documents actually being created (i.e., in line with everyone but the 82 year old lady). Dan Rather and CBS's news division head resign in disgrace, CBS apologizes, the electorate acknowledges that the news is being filtered by jackasses like Rather, the electorate forgets about Bush's service, and Bush wins 55-45 in the popular vote. This story looks like its already playing out that way. Even the Washington Post's Kurtz pointedly aimed criticism at CBS yesterday, particularly noting, e.g., Sullivan.
The only thing missing now is the low level operative with nothing to lose. I don't think the R lawyer fits that description.
Hello

Not at all, though I suspect I contributed to the first book on copyrights you read in law school. There were no chapters on the history of typewriters or computers. Do you serve fries with your work-product?

Don't dignify his insanity Club. Think about it, Rove would experiment on whether blogs can grassroots challenge a 60 minutes story and risk the whole election? What, do you think he's getting bored and is just fucking around? Its nonsense. that this played this way is great, but couldn't have been predicted.
lgf has a great running summary of Dan's shame. The memos came from a Texas kinko's where a long time Bush hater has an account. Go there if you want fair reporting.
in the meantime, anyone check the electoral vote today?

OTOH
The New York Times is at least implying that a Lt. Col. in the Texas Air National Guard (someone here or somewhere mentioned this already) is the likely source of the documents. The guy is already on record criticizing Bush's record, and Mr. Self-inflicted wound Cleland himself acknowledges talking to this guy. The guy was supposedly trying to push documents directly onto the Kerry camp.
The LA Times should be sure to run this story too, at least insofar as it tends to completely exonerate the GA lawyer (and point to his extraordinary ability to authenticate documents based on the history of availability of fonts and spacing etc). We'll see if they do, but I don't think they (or the AP) did a disservice with the story yesterday, at least because it didn't come right out and accuse this guy of being Rove's lackey.
Hello

Teacher chops off ears of 17 students in Bangladesh
By Farid Ahmed, Indo-Asian News Service
Dhaka, Sep 16 (IANS) A teacher in a madrassa in northern Bangladesh cut off the ears of 17 children with a pair of scissors because they were not reading their textbooks loudly.
And no atticus I don't believe your 6th grade nun did something just like this.

Does Drum ever get it right?
I know all those transcripts are accurate because I saw all those shows with my own two eyes. See what you are missing Ty by not watching Fox News? The truth.
Speaking of Fox News, I heard about another gaffe by Teresa. She was attempting to comment on the performance of FEMA during the hurricances and I guess she felt they shouldn't have rushed in with supplies that included clothing. She said "let them go naked for a while, at least the kids."
This may be one election in which the potential first lady causes her husband to loose. She hasn't the faintest idea what it is like to live life as most people in the US live. She of course could just jet away from any impending storms in her private jet and then pay others to clean up the damage, never having to "go naked."
She is a real liability to his campaign.

There are crazies in every religion, but Islam inspires more heinous acts than any other religion in our present times. On balance, far more evil is propagated on this earth inspired by islam than good.
