ps: Also, the use of pejorative terms like Islamofascist to characterize the enemy helps "frame" the debate. I am pro-framing.

Nonononono,
France is the enemy, they must be opposed at any cost. You are either with us or with them, however, you confuse my anti-France political stance and rhetoric with my need to satisfy my earthly desires. I am all for french wine. Never de-boarded that train. Had an 1988 Bordeaux on Thursday night, as I posted here several days ago.
For your reading pleasure, this is like the 12th time I have posted this since 2002, but here goes again:
I hate the French! Notwithstanding that, I like almost everything about France, well, except the smelly French.
Certainly, undisputedly, they have the best wine, food, and their women speak English in a sexy manner and are possessed of certain waif-like charms
I like to French kiss and in fairness they did invent the bikini. And the monokini! OH and a Gaulois cigarette is better than anything the Marlboro Man is schmoking.
Yet, I still find that I hate the French. They smell and are cowardly ingrates.
I think that, perhaps, before we go to [continue to prosecute the war on terror in the Middle east] we should rethink our strategy. We should first ensure continued access to the vineyards of France and after we secure the vineyards, we should let the [Islamofacists] take the rest of that country in exchange for a promise to stay out of America's way in the [rest of the world]. And we should toss in Alec Baldwin, Barbara Stresisand and Jerry Lewis too!

My father was an airforce officer and part of the occupation forces of Germany. He was the provost Marshall of Templehof Airbase in Berlin. When the solidiers got out of line he would threaten to send them to one of our bases in France. It was like our Russian Front. He also said that they would have joint occupation social gatherings were the American, British, Russians and the Germans would all get drunk together. The French officers would sit off to one side and not participate. In addition, many of the French officers were on the Russian payroll, but the French government refused to recognize that fact. Of course the French officers would take money from the Russians, pass to them military secrets, but would not socialize with them.

Exactly.
Our three biggest mistakes in WWII were (1) allowing a mentally and morally deficient FDR to sell out the freedom of the Eastern Europeans to Uncle Joe Commie and thereby damn 100 million innocent souls to generations of oppression; (2) not continuing to plow eastward and liberate Moscow and St. Petersburgh; and last but not least (3) not letting the Germans keep France.

If North Korea decided right now to say that the United State give it a hundred billion dollars or they will launch we would be in a really screwed situation. There is no question that eventually a system could be made to work. It is just a matter of resources and effort. Can you really put a price tag on Los Angeles, San Diego or San Francisco? Every proposal for research and spending on missile defense should get 100 percent vote of the house and senate. Anyone that is against spending on SDI, or wants to reduce, is a moron. Plain and simple.

I've found that many SDI proponents seem to place a touching yet fervent faith in the idea that a nuclear warhead will arrive via the skies, just like it said in Revelations, but those orgasmic dreams of apocalypse averted never seem to contemplate, in this age of car bombs and airplane bombs, the possibility that said warhead may arrive on a fucking boat.
In this age of unlimited government spending, I'm as happy to pour borrowed taxpayer dollars down a rathole as anyone else. Us morons simply ask that equivalent increases be dedicated to Coast Guard and port security.

No it doesn't. That is a really stupid comment. That is like saying that because I take precautions against getting skin cancer that I don't think I can get a heart attack.

China has about 100 ICBS. North Korea may have a few. The United States has committed ourselves to protecting Taiwan and South Korea. Is it so hard to imagine that either of these committments might gets us involved in a War? And in such a war the enemy might try and hurt us?
I pay a lot of money in Federal Taxes and I don't see much of a return. I don't benefit from Medicaid or Social Secuirty or any of the other transfer payments. I can't really think of a more important thing the Federal government could do for me (save stopping terrorists coming into this country) than protecting me from an incoming missile.

Putting aside a valid issue, a question back to Spanky;s post, do we think North Korea has an ability to deliver a nuclear warhead all the way to the continental US via missile yet or will have that capability anytime soon?

Penske Penske,
I am sure I read this from you just this week! No cheese-eating surrender monkeys for you, hmmm? I have the opposite response: all those earthly delights lead to a certain strong fondness for the French, despite their lack of backbone, and I do find their self-absorption a strange attractive draw. So, with that in mind, I support your move to keep our access to quality vineyards free and clear - just remember you need a few quirky French to stay there in order to keep it [the wine] going well.
So, just Bordeaux for you? Watch the Tour today?
