In a bullfight, we pretty much know whose blood is going to be on the sand as the shadows lengthen into darkness. It's not the result --- it's about the grace and artistry by which one accomplishes the (almost) inevitable.

They Know Where You Live
Reason magazine was looking for a way to drive home the point of its cover article on the loss of privacy in the digital age. What they came up with to illustrate the point was so effective, it freaked readers' shit.

Alternatively, the mocker is a moron.
ETA from the onion:
Halliburton Employee's Pay Docked For Weeks Spent As Hostage
BAGHDAD—Spokesmen for Halliburton International announced Monday that employee Thomas Hamill will not be paid for the three weeks he failed to fulfill his truck-driving duties while being held at gunpoint by Iraqi captors. "While we share your joy in regaining your freedom, we are forced to withhold your wages for the period of April 9 to May 2," read the official corporate reprimand, which reached Hamill in Germany as doctors treated his bullet wound. "A disciplinary slip noting your failure to report to work has been added to your employee file." Halliburton has not yet disclosed the amount Hamill is being charged for structural damage to the company truck he was shot in.

My thought exactly, only substituting "lettuce" for "cabbage." What kind of effete snob thinks you get a cheesesteak with lettuce and tomato?

Disappointment
I am extremely disappointed with the lack of political discourse that occurred on the PB today.

Being mostly serious here. The ultimate threat (not trying to set up a scarecrow here) that most people see is the Big Brother government using that information for intrusion or oppression or profit. From my days, there simply weren't enough Big Brothers out there to even care about people as individuals, except when they did something to warrant attention like, you know, shooting someone*.
The databasification non-triggered use of data on a wide scale should be a very scary concept to people, as its the mass use of Big Company and, potentially, Big Brother to intrude on people's privacy.
Thanks for posting the link. Its a good deal for me to consider.
Hello
*As an example of how anonymous most people are to Big Brother, I recall the comments I heard from law enforceres during the Anthrax scares. People in random neighborhoods would get unrecognized letters that were suddenly suspicious. They'd call the police. When they got there, the police would typically be, like, Yawn, whoRU that anyone would care to hurt you again?
I mean, the Big Big Brother could have provided information about the complainants to the police before they were sent but, really, why bother? Most people, nay, the overwhelming majority of people, are nobody to governmental Big Brother. He's not watching you. He's not monitoring you. He's not reading your mail. He doesn't even recognize your name. Well, not until you are associated with something bad, in which case, the datebased information is all out there to reconstruct your life and habits.
Reason magazine did people a favor by getting them to think about this stuff.

Even the article about Bono saying the FCC taught him a lesson couldn't tear you away? I may have to delete the little hoochie.
