Thank you. He's doing fine this morning and doesn't seem to miss his tail at all.
He is a former stud (ha!) and got a condition that affects former studs. This condition means that the tail is really prone to infection. He started getting infections and we did all we could but the best course was just to get rid of the source of the infection, so now he should lead a long and infection-free life.

Perhaps he should see a doctor.

In the series you'll see a guy who throws 103 MPH. Zumaya might finish the 7th and take the 8th. no one can hit him.
Then, if we are ahead going into the 9th, Zumaya will get pulled. He'll get pulled even if no one has hit him. Todd Jones will come in. He'll be lucky to hit 93 MPH.
Leyland feels Jones has better control, and that the number 1 thing for a closer is control. So far he's been proven right.

Book question
What makes you buy a book?
A friend of mine is working on the final edits of her book. It's supposed to come out this spring, and though she has an advance and real publisher with a real marketing department and all that jazz, she realizes that she's going to have to do a shitload of self-promotion. The question is, what should she do to get people to buy her book?
Anyhow, it got me to wondering how it is that I pick up a book: For me, usually it's either word of mouth, I liked the description on the back cover, or I read something about it. I get irritated a lot lately in bookstores because they don't have internet terminals where I can look up the name of an author or a title from whatever blog or article I'd seen the book mentioned.
Do readings or hearing commentaries on the radio help? Does the blog of the author help? Is it a matter of where the book is placed in the bookstores? Is it a question of figuring out how to get yourself on the Daily Show?
I know a lot of people (or know of, through reading their blogs) with recent book deals that are going to face the same issues. It never really occured to me that the work isn't done once the book is in the hands of the publisher until Allyson started freaking out about it.

I although I dare risk "outing" myself by declaring this, I constantly wear dark dress shirts with dark ties of primarily the same color.
It looks great if the tie has some pattern (in either texture or color) to make it stand out from the shirt.

Although I skimmed I believe the answer is all of the above. Good exposure is good exposure. The cover helps.

Doo doo doo doo - do do do
Would one of you NYers explain to me how loyalties to the Yankees/Mets, Rangers/Islanders, Jints/Jets, and Knicks/Nets intersect and overlap? A Venn diagram might be useful.

This isn't true and you know it. I will concede that it is a pain in the ass that there are so many corporate seats, but there are there are so many instances of generations of fans with seasons tickets who will never give them up.

|
Not really. I usually am cheering for the Mets to do well most of the year since I think a Subway Series is always cool. When the Yanks are out of it, I usually pick an underdog. This year, I'd rather not deal with all the fake-ass, bandwagon-jumping, fair-weather Mets fans I haven't seen since 2000, if they do win.

Okay, let's add 'em up since you joined the league.

The Mets drew a record 3.4 million fans this season. The Yankees' regular season attendance topped 4.2 million. I guess a difference of 800,000 fans is "pretty close."
And you're not going to argue that your lineup isn't ridiculously good. Like ppnyc, I'll be incapable of hearing it.

FWIW, at least the AL is competitive. The Yankees, sadly, got steamrolled by a dominant pitching staff and a team that was the best in the Majors for most of the season.
The National League was a pathetic joke. Karl Ravech called it AAAA. The Mets losing to the Cardinals this year would be almost as embarrassing as the "Great Collapse of '04"

Untrue. <sniff.>
