Is Huey Lewis one of the worst acts ever? Has anyone ever admitted to liking him?
I like him. Or at least I did until he did anything after the Power of Love. His first record is pretty decent. He just turned into a weenie after his second record.

This is coming from someone who fought the "maurading metal hordes" (per label by ncs) at a Black Label Society show last night, so I have no fear of my musical masculinity (other than perhaps my seeming desire to go to a show that has a 95% male audience).

Patrick Bateman.

Pardon the esoteric Bret Easton Ellis reference, but I couldn't help myself.

While I would not, say, buy a ticket to see him, I don't really have a problem with him and would not necessarily change the radio station to avoid. Depending on my mood. Unlike this morning, when my only musical choice was that "Stay the Night (and fight the break of dawn, come tomorrow, tomorrow I'll be gone)" song or commercials or something annoying on both NPR stations. I opted for silence.

Being a huge, HUGE, Ray Parker Jr. fan, I have to say that I hate Huey Lewis, and I hate you for liking Huey Lewis.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in eighty-three, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He’s been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. . . . In eighty-seven, Huey released this, Four, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is Hip to be Square. A song so catchy most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics, but they should. Because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself

Now Ray Parker Jr. is someone I could push the hate wagon for. His only redeeming quality is that he bought a cool music studio in the Valley that has a nice relaxed vibe to it (so I hear).

So, are you telling me "I Want A New Drug" is not some sort of life anthem for you? Of course, Huey's answer may have come in the form of Viagra, which was released several years after he disappeared.

Um, does this mean no more hugs for me? I'm bereft. Or whatever.

This is the problem with the STP. Two people can react with the same topical comeback but it is all in the execution. This execution was fabulous. For the first sentence or two, I was like, huh? Is she serious? Then I realized why this soudned familiar. And I got to revisit the brilliant dialogue. Bravo and well done.

You'll be happy to know that he has not disappeared; my friend saw him last month in O'Hare airport.
